Where are all the MMU 2.0 Reviews on YouTube? MakersMuse, 3D Printing Nerd, Sanladerer?

I said it before. Where are all the MMU 2.0 Reviews from Makers Muse, Thomas Sanladerer, 3D Printer Nerd, etc etc etc. It is strange that this product has been out for some time now with absolutely no review from any of these guys. The few that I have seen were not very good. Basically it is a tinkerers product and not ready for the general public from what I can see. It reminds me of Harley's in the 70's where you expected it to leak oil in the driveway and had to be a handyman to keep it running.

I think it comes down to the old saying "If I have not got something nice to say, I will not say anything". None of the big YouTube reviewers will want to publish a harsh review from such a large and important manufacturer if they can help it. The MK3 launch was a slo-mo car crash of issues and the YouTubers could be cautious reviewing anything else from Prusa until its pretty stable and deliveries are being delivered in a timely manner.

Likewise with Angus (Makers Muse) - I know he really says it like it is, Aussie style. If he thinks something is crap, he'll say so. Any manufacturer who doesnt have 100% confidence in their product would be mad to send him a review machine unless they were confident it would come out smelling of roses!

I'm confident the MMU2 will be a right pain in the arse - so if it turns out that it works well out of the box (when I finally get it) it will be a pleasant surprise! I'm a tinkerer and enjoy a challenge 😆

This topic is very similar to the topic I created on September 12th: https://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/general-discussion-announcements-and-releases-f53/where-s-the-hype-for-the-new-mmu-2-0--t24490.html

I think the poster above hit the nail on the head. The MMU 2.0 is still in Alpha and it would be foolish to put units in the hands of big time influencers.

Throwing in my two cents...

I don't think any of the reviewers are actually paying for their own review units, and I'm fairly confident that at least some of them are paid to review the products (even if they're not disclosing that fact, which they're supposed to do but the rules aren't really enforced by anyone). I'm also pretty confident that you can buy a lot of positive reviews if you want to, no matter how bad the product actually is.

So nothing will get reviewed unless the manufacturer at a minimum sends a free unit, and possibly pays for the review.

Which means we know exactly why there's no YouTube reviews: Prusa isn't sending them money and/or free units. The real question is why isn't Prusa marketing the MMU in this particular fashion?

I think the answer to that, is that Prusa are snowed under with orders, why would they want to increase demand at the moment, when they can't supply the demand they already have.

Raising demand would be a recipe for disaster...

I remember somebody mentioned to have it already. Don't know exactly which one of those guys. Anyway I also think they see that this unit is still under development and improvement. So they don't want to post a final review which might lead to negative feedback at the current stage. Just remember how long it took until they posted MK3 review.
But I do also think that not many people have this unit right now and the lead time of 3 month is also showing a pretty full order bucket. Maybe PR asked those guys to wait couple month until a review can be published.

I would love to believe that but Prusa has shown that they don't mind taking peoples money and holding onto it for months. I know some people paid Prusa nearly a year before they received their MMU 2.0; I was 6 months. I paid Prusa 4 months before I received my MK3.

Honestly, I think it's a part of Prusa's plan to take money before they're ready to ship a product. It would help them bring in cash without having to take a business loan.

Given how recently the MMU2 became available to the mainstream, I'd be leery of any review at this point. To really understand and use it takes time. Short of an unboxing and install video, the community is still working out how to use this thing. Some are getting great results. It's definitely not at toaster complexity.

I'm not sure why "number of YouTube reviews" is some sort of metric. I can find plenty of "reviews" by mumbling, barely intelligible characters in poorly lit rooms reading the manufacturer's specs to me after they received a "review unit", some even before doing a test print. Reviews of Prusa product are scarcer I suspect because they don't send them out like candy. Those who do a review are likely those who have shown themselves capable of doing quality reviews.

I remember reading Joseph himself posting they had pre-sold 10,000 MMU's before they had shipped the MMU 2.0 so I don't know if I would agree with you reasoning. If anything I agree with some of the other posters in that the MMU 2.0 has issues and they don't want to do a bad review for whatever reason. They all dropped some videos before they started shipping but nothing that I would call a true review. More like a product awareness plug. Now that it is out it is unconscionable they don't all have one to review. When MK3 came out they all proudly unpacked them very early in the product life in Videos and they even sent 3D Printing Nerd a second one because the first one had issues. My best guess it the MMU 2.0 is a little more buggy than first thought and they shipped with issues thinking they would fix it in the field and that is proving more difficult than anticipated. The reason I think shipments have slowed down is they are slow walking shipments in the hope of at least getting it sorta running. 3D printers are still a tinkerer gadget and no way ready for the general public. I have had to rip my Prusa apart several times in the last year to repair it and just came home to another failed print because the PLA came loose from the Spray PEI sheet. I love the Textured PEI sheet but man does it have some issues with prints detaching. Much more than the smooth sheet IMO. I only run it with PLA and keep it clean but it is a temperamental work bed.

Except that the OP was referencing reviewers who have a pretty good rep (aside from the etc etc lol).

Let's face it, to put a review of this product up (straight out of the box) probably wouldn't end well in terms of glowing comments. As you say, it takes time to set it up, play with different settings, maybe worse, and then hours to print anything. Probably something that some reviewers would find not in their best interest either.

Whatever their motives, this is the single biggest annoying thing with PR imho. Promising, taking all your money upfront, then under-delivering, is not the way you gain a good reputation. And yes Bobstro, I understand nobody is forcing you to buy from them. 😉 However, from a business perspective, it is not a good look. Do it too often and that is what you become known for.

True, but you could also pay with invoice. 😉
PR is growing as fast as they can and still can't handle the demand. I like how Prusa handled this situation. He is still trying to naturally grow. He could also sell his company and I'm pretty sure many of us then wouldn't be here anymore.

True, but you could also pay with invoice. 😉

So I assume what they mean by that is you make an eft (electronic funds transfer) when they send you an invoice, which presumably means when it's ready to ship? Otherwise I have no idea what paying with an invoice actually means. 😳

The same could be done with credit card payment.

You're right. You still have to pay upfront: FAQ
Please keep in mind that we can't send orders before the payment is received. Usually, it takes 5 business days until the wire transfer payment is received and confirmed. Schools and government organizations can ask for an exemption from paying upfront. Simply contact us at [email protected] (subject: school, government order), and we will do our best to help you out.

They are burying them on their website. Wrote honest review of issues I have been having. Did not show up on PRUSA mmu 2.0 product page. Only one review to date??? I find that hard to believe. If your review is not full on praising PRUSA I guess it will not be posted. Basically this (MMU 2.0) is not ready for release, promise of being more reliable than MM1.0 is simply not true. I really liked PRUSA and what they are doing...But honesty is top on my list....I will have a hard time recommending them any more now that I know they are not honest with their feedback.
