what size is the bowden tubing going from MMU to extruder?
is it 4 outer 2 inner? or did they go 4 outer 1.9 inner?
I think I found some clear tubing, just to help with troubleshooting when I finally get my mmu.
I have a Prusa,therefore I research.
Re: what size is the bowden tubing going from MMU to extruder?
The orange "sexy" tubing is high precision 4/2 mm.
I use regular PTFE - it has a slightly larger ID and can help loading if there's a string on the end which gets folded back .
You need to be careful with anything with a larger ID; there's a step inside the lower Festo which filament can hit on load and cause problems.

Re: what size is the bowden tubing going from MMU to extruder?
thanks, sure the orange is semi sexy, BUT seeing the filament better (without a flashlight) I think would be sexier

Re: what size is the bowden tubing going from MMU to extruder?
I wouldn't use 3mm filament with a Bowden system. A Bowden tube for 1.75mm filament imparts quite a lof ot sideways force to the hot end, which used to cause the head angle to vary on my printer. With 3mm filament, this force will be around 5 times higher, because I expect the sideways force to increase with the cube of the tube diameter.
If we let things terrify us, life will not be worth living.

Hi,
exact shapes, diameters and lengths of the MMU2 tubing will be soon available. I'm working on it 😉

Re: what size is the bowden tubing going from MMU to extruder?
I got one pre MMU2.0 install question I have a spare stock ptfe tube for the extruder on the mk3. my question is can I proceed to use it to replace the primary one that came with the printer so I can get the R3 parts installed by following the new assembly instructions or the MMU2 kit will have a "special sized" one for it?
not talking about the orange one but, the one inside the extruder body just to clear things up.

PTFE in the extruder is 1.85mm ID tapered at top and both chamfered and tapered at the bottom. Not all Mk3 PTFE tubes are equal 🙁

Re: what size is the bowden tubing going from MMU to extruder?
I have printed the R3 parts for the MK3 and like to make that upgrade before the MMU 2.0 arrives, but as I understand it, the MK3 stock PTFE tube inside the E3D has to be replaced with a new 1.85 mm ID PTFE tube to make MMU 2.0 work?
Disassembling the hot end now for R3 and when the MMU arrives, just to replace the PTFE tube, puts extra stress on the wiring.
Is there a place to purchase new PTFE tube with the right dimensions?
I have been looking on eBay, but only seems to find 2x4 mm (IDxOD) tube.
It would be nice if the new tube could be found in the Prusa Shop for us that wants to get the benefit of the R3 upgrade while waiting for the MMU to arrive 😉
Have a look at my models on Printables.com 😉

360mm But I just use regular PTFE which has a slightly larger ID and I don't taper the lower end.

Re: what size is the bowden tubing going from MMU to extruder?
thanks,
I just ordered clear tube for trouble shooting and the view. if it doesn't work out I will go back to the (I can almost see the filament) tube
no MMU yet, but reading everyone's troubles. I damn well better be ready for it.

Re: what size is the bowden tubing going from MMU to extruder?
Has anyone found a good source for stock dimension and quality tubing?
I asked support if I could buy a 400 mm piece and they said no.
I maintain an informal list of San Diego, CA 3D printing enthusiasts. PM me for details. If you include a contact email and I can add you to the informal mailing list.

How did it work out?
Re: what size is the bowden tubing going from MMU to extruder?
I use clear 2.5/4 PTFE tubing for my MMU - extruder run. Works very well, and it's nice being able to see what's going on.
Re: what size is the bowden tubing going from MMU to extruder?
Could you post a link for your clear 2.5 mm PTFE tubing?
Re: what size is the bowden tubing going from MMU to extruder?
I bought 1 metre from UK because I wanted it quickly for the MMU2 to Extruder tube, and 5 metres from China formthe Filament feed tubes as a later purchase to save costs
I try to make safe suggestions,You should understand the context and ensure you are happy that they are safe before attempting to apply my suggestions, what you do, is YOUR responsibility. Location Halifax UK
Re: what size is the bowden tubing going from MMU to extruder?
Thank you Joan for the links.
You are lucky in the UK. Unfortunately neither source is shipping to Germany.
Spent an hour on Amazon and Ebay but wasn't able to find a local source that ships within a few days.
Found one China source on Amazon with the usual 4-6 weeks shipping time but more expensive than your source.
2.5x4mm PTFE tubing is really hard to find. If anyone knows a good source that ships to Germany, please post a link.
As one reason to change the PTFE tubing is a better view of the filament inside the tubing, I'm wondering whether there is a difference between white, natural, translucent and transparent PTFE tubing. I found these descriptions during my research for 2.5x4mm PFTE tubing. Or is this all just different naming for the same white PTFE tubing we got from Prusa to connect the mmu2 to the spools holders?
Re: what size is the bowden tubing going from MMU to extruder?
There's a few UK based suppliers on eBay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=ptfe+tube+4+2.5&_sacat=0&rt=nc&LH_PrefLoc=1
