Spooljoin only 4 spools (1 spool for soluble material)?
Hi,
Is it possible somehow to have spooljoin working only with a number of spools (like the first 4) and be able to have one spool (or maybe two) left for soluble material?
I would like to have one spool with soluble material, that is why i bought the MMU and be able to use spooljoin for the structure material (on 3 or 4 spools) to get rid of the leftovers...

The big question is if it only uses the same material with spooljoin or if it does not care. If I have three spools listed as PLA, one as ABS, and one as Soluble, if spool one goes empty it should only shift to spool two and then to spool three.
This is just how I think it SHOULD act, I am not sure how it actually DOES act.

the MMU will not care what is loaded because it simply does not know, it will cycle through the inputs from 1 to 5 and back to 1 if everything is empty regardless of which material is loaded.
you need to make sure by yourself that you only have spools loaded that you actually want to print with.

The slicer knows what is in each spool (you tell it so it knows what temps to use, etc), and the slicer is also where you enable spooljoin. All the information is there, it just has to use it to prevent ABS from using soluble support filament or PETg.
To just prevent the use of soluble filament, when the checkbox to enable spooljoin is selected, have a selector box appear that says "do not use soluable material". Since you tell the slicer you have soluble material loaded in slot 5, it knows it is in slot 5. When it sends the commands to the MMU to load the next material, it simply has to NOT tell it to use slot 5. It will then go from 1 to 2 to 3 to 4 and back to 1 again.
If you want it to only use the same materials as the one that ran out, the logic is more difficult. You can load any filament into any slot. But again, the slicer knows what is in each slot. The logic should be written to only use slots of the same filament type. The slicer has all the info it needs to do this already and send the command to move to the proper slot to the MMU, which happily does it.

An adaptation of the logic used for color changes can be used to accomplish this. When you change color, you tell the slicer to go from slot 1 to slot 4 (for example). The slicer knows you went from PLA to ABS with that change. The slicer tells the hot end to change temp, the fan to turn off, etc. It tells the MMU to change to slot 4. It can do the same with spooljoin, telling the MMU to go to the next slot which contains PLA.
