I think this is a great feature!  The problem I see is that when the new filiment is loaded there is a purge of the nozzle, but generally that purged material has been sticking to the nozzle until printing resumes, and therefore depositing the purged material on the print surface.   Is there a way that purge could occur and the material be wiped against a known outer edge someplace?  Any other tricks for having the nozzel wiped clean in the middle of a print?

How old is your nozzle?  Have you been printing abrasive filaments?

Nozzle is likely 5 yrs old.   So that could have a flaw that causes melted filiment to cling to one side as it extrudes?  Interesting.  I have not been printing abrasive filiments.  Thanks for the pointer.

They do wear out, even with just ordinary PLA and PETG I would expect to change at least once a year.

Mine is brand new - 2 weeks. Still gets stuck to the nozzle after print. I clean the nozzle with pliers or similar after each print.

Don't clean brass nozzled with steel - too hard.

New printer and I see this happen.  Not sure why but I have watched the filament ooze out and curl up to the nozzle while heating.  I use a small brass brush to clean my nozzle off.

A slight curl is acceptable at the start of a purge, it will usually drop away - but if you're getting significant ooze while heating your filament may be damp.

Dampness is a question but with PLA, I have read and been told that 34% RH is not bad and shouldn't be an issue.  Did some prints yesterday and in all heating phases there was about 2cm ooze coming out of the nozzle.  Watched closely and there is about 1mm ooze at the end of a print cycle.  Sometimes as it oozed out, it wanted to curl up against the nozzle.

Some of the curl is due to uneven cooling as the print fan blows from one side.  Don't believe everything you're told (including this) without checking.

After a week exposed in a room with a dehumidifier running there was noticeable deterioration of PLA finish...

CNC Kitchen - skip to 7.40 for time to fully hydrate results.
