To the best of my knowledge the kit includes R3 extruder parts.

Reading the (newly posted) mmu2 upgrade instructions, it appears the new extruder pieces are included, and they do recommend upgrading.

It's pretty much essential that you upgrade to those parts.

I had planned to upgrade, and printed out the parts in July. Even dug out some ABS and dialed it in. Then I realized it would make sense to wait and do it with the MMU upgrade.

The fact that official parts ship with the upgrade is a nice bonus.

I have been changing colors so I have been printing new parts. I prefer yellow.

The old extruder parts create more friction in the filament path than necessary. As a consequence, the motor power is higher than it needs to be, which leads to hotter motor and that heats up the Bondtech drive pulley (you see where we are going with this...).

Just print the parts with PLA. I have and they work just fine. Even the fan outlet.

I've printed all the new R3 parts with Colorfabb's HT. Yesterday I printed with the new version some parts with Polycarbonate-CFK (3DXTech) filament at 295°C. Everything worked fine.

Interesting. I've got PETG, NGEN and XT available. I was concerned after reading about the nozzle needing to be ABS. Thanks for the confirmation. I'll give it a go with NGEN most likely.

Sorry to be dense, but reading the previous few posts: I've got the MMU2 on order. Does it include the R3 parts in the box, or does it require that I print the R3 parts before use, or neither? I understand that the redesign improves filament and air flow but my Mk3 is printing very nicely and (most importantly) quietly. I'm hesitant to upgrade if it's not really required.

The R3 parts are included in the MMU2 upgrade. You can wait if you want, or you could save a couple of hours when you receive the kit and do it now. If you do decide to do it now, then you would get the benefits immediately 😉

You could also fix your nozzle gap at the same time.

The R3 upgrade is on my "someday" list, but might as well save it for a big project. My schedule for the next few weeks will give me a little time to print, but I'd rather not be working on the printer.

You could also fix your nozzle gap at the same time.It feels so strange, but I'm very happy with my Mk3 as it was delivered out-of-the-box. I've printed a range of materials and models sliced with a range of slicers using a range of nozzles and it's worked like a champ. I was going to wait for R4 parts or just sit for a bit after reading about increased noise levels and questions about the fan airflow over the part. Not that I'm overly concerned, just not in a rush?

During beta-testing, it was found that the V6 were being incorrectly assembled and shipped out with a nozzle gap up to 1.5 mm. This is not good under any circumstances and really should be fixed, but it must be fixed for MMU2.

In reading all the extruder clicking threads, I never saw anyone mention the lowered friction for R3; I only saw mentions of the increased fan efficiency but that would make sense about the firmware update for the lowered stepper currect. I love reading the input from the community, even though my printer is sitting in a DHL truck or plane somewhere in Europe, I'm absorbing all this great knowledge.

The feed is offset by 0.25mm ;(

Running with E-power set to 20 (30+ was previous default) for both running and holding.
