He just did a video where he says they have 10,000 pre-orders for the MMU 2.0. So I guess the answer is 10,000+

I'm talking about when the stopped allowing people to order MMUs for several months and reopened them back in April.

So does anyone know when the new orders from April will start to ship? I ordered on the first day and am somewhat disappointed to realise there is a whole queue of MMU1 orders to be filled before the new orders get looked at.

This is still the official statement on the website:
Multi Material upgrades v2 and MK3 ordered together with redesigned Multi Material upgrades - we aim to start shipping at the back half of August 2018 (after beta testing phase), a majority in September and October, new MMU for MK3 orders in November/December 2018. If you want your printer sooner, please contact our support at [email protected] to split your order, we'll help you.
Based on that, I would think you should plan to receive your MMU before the end of October. We don't know what fraction of the backordered MMUs were originally ordered as MMU1 vs. MMU2. But if I had to guess I'd guess that most of the backlog dates from before you placed your order.

Much as I would like to I can't fault your reasoning. It does indeed look like back end of October.
That realisation, together with the revelation about the placement of the spools (which if true will mean I cannot use the MMU2 anyway) effectively kills the last spark of enthusiasm I had for this product. Thoroughly deflated now. 😥

Wait to see what comes out of actual user experience before you jump to conclusions about spool placement. Where were you planning to put your five reels of filament?

I was told that my mmu1 upgrade was being delayed until the new orders were addressed...

Where were you planning to put your five reels of filament?
My printers sit with their backs to a wall, with about six inches clearance for cable movement. So I planned to mount the spools on that wall which would mean they were above and slightly behind the printers, and drop the filaments down in a smooth curve to the MMU2.
Regarding the shipping queue then, it seems there are three streams. Currently shipping are the new orders for MMU which were ordered as MMU1. Then there is the stream of upgrade kits from MMU1 to MMU2 for users who already have the MMU1. Finally there are the new orders for MMU2 placed when they went on sale in April. I am at the front of the third stream so a fair wait seems likely if the April new orders are the last to ship. 🙁

I think I saw something somewhere that they were working on the first two weeks of MMU orders. Which makes me think that they're doing them all in one big batch. I'm sure you'll get yours soon.
