Request for slic3r option?

Sorry if this is somewhere else - my first Prusa post!!

I was looking at a reddit post (here if you're curious: https://www.reddit.com/r/3Dprinting/comments/8xid6e/getting_the_coloring_right_on_the_desert_tiles/ ) where the printer mixes filament instead of wasting it. It allows for some neat color gradients (see mountains for example) and was wondering if that is a MM option for the Prusa? I understand that when it switches, it prints the gradients to a waste area, which is preferable when wanting a clear color difference, but if you WANT the color change to be gradual, is the option available to allow the print to continue as the colors mix and switch? Is there a forum for bugs, suggestions, or tweaks?

Cheers and thanks! so excited to get my printer (mk3 ordered last week!!) and curious about upgrading to MM when I get the hang of ONE filament! 🙂

Re: Request for slic3r option?

Hi Ben.
what you request is not a normal option.

as the Prusa MMU-v1 and MMU-v2 both use single nozzles, when you withdraw the old colour and advance the new colour, there is likely to be either a period of under extrusion or a period of over extrusion, with probable entrapped air bubble at the point of change over.
this is likely to create unexpected artefacts in the resultant print. in addition to a gradual colourchange

I suspect this would mar the resultant model, more than is acceptable

the place for requests like this is the Prusa Git Hub site
or you could roll your own G code for colour change

Re: Request for slic3r option?

It's would be somewhat problematic to do this, although theoretically possible.

The biggest problem is to be able to unload the filament without stringing and this is usually achieved by printing about 2 linear cm of filament very quickly before a fast retract (effectively cooling the nozzle with a lot of cold filament).

So what you require could be achieved, but you would still require a small tower for unloading and maybe a small prime of the new filament.
