PSA: Eject filament before turning off printer!!
I had the interesting issue earlier after performing the first layer calibration on my new MMU2. Instead of turning on normally, the MMU2 would flash all red LEDs and the MK3 acted like it wasn't even connected to the MMU2. In the support menu it listed the MMU2 as N/A. I figured I must have unplugged something somehow, so I checked all the wiring and nothing was out of place.
I finally figured out that because I had loaded filament blocking the path from the MMU2, it wasn't able to complete its startup sequence and just fails. You must eject the filament before you turn it off or you will have to manually do it after it turns back on. Since the MK3 didn't recognize the MMU2, the eject menu wasn't there to make it easier.
Re: PSA: Eject filament before turning off printer!!
I've had this problem.
Typically, when I finish a print the mk3/mmu2 unload the filament correctly, all the way behind the MMU2. However, I've had multiple single color prints where the MMU2 seems to crash during the print. When this happens, there is no way to get the MMU2 to withdraw the filament. When the print ends, the mk3 unloads the filament a bit, but it stops just above the bondtech (I assume), or possibly doesn't unload at all. I then have to manually unload.
It would be nice if the MMU2 had the following option:
- on boot, if finda detects filament, go into "blocked mode".
- in 'blocked mode', instead of just flashing red, have some simple options:
- controlled by the three buttons
- allow rotation of the idler to select the correct filament (no moving of the selector)
- allow 'unload' rotation of the gears (when a button pushed)
With that, I could turn the printer on, heat the hot end, and unload the filament.
Right now, I have to unscrew the bowden tube and do things manually.

I have reported that issue already:

Re: PSA: Eject filament before turning off printer!!
I have a special stick I use to plunge the filament back through the selector but leave it just fish with the drum's outlet.
I maintain an informal list of San Diego, CA 3D printing enthusiasts. PM me for details. If you include a contact email and I can add you to the informal mailing list.

I have a similar tool 😉
But that is all just a workaround.
