Printer with MMU stuck in a load/unload loop

I sliced a model in single color mode. Put it on the SD card, loaded PET into the PTFE tube for material #2. Told the printer to print. It warms up, asks me which filament to use. I choose filament #2. It loads material #2 down to the extruder, then goes to the front right corner and unloads the filament and tells me to "Remove old filament". I hit the button and the MMU moves to material #1 and starts pushing material #2 out of the MMU into empty space until it blinks a load error. I pull filament #2 back into the MMU and we are stuck there with "Loading filament 2" on the screen.

I have reset the printer and tried this very operation 3 times. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I am running the latest stable firmware in both the printer and the MMU.

Hi Jody,
is the filament sensor turned off on the printer?

if not, turn it off and try again!

I have the MMU torn off of it and it's printing something right now, so I'll check again later. But why would having the filament sensor "on" cause that behavior?

Re: Printer with MMU stuck in a load/unload loop

Hi Jody,

sometimes the sensor fails to read shiny, or translucent filament, and responds with a filament change request.

the MMUv2 uses a Finda sensor in the MMU, and I understand the Mk3 filament sensor should be turned off...

as my MMU2 has not yet arrived, this is pure guesswork on my part... but the symptoms seem to suggest a filament sensor error!

It's an issue with the optical sensor. I turned it on, had the same thing, turned it off, it went away.

I maintain an informal list of San Diego, CA 3D printing enthusiasts. PM me for details. If you include a contact email and I can add you to the informal mailing list.
