Well, there's always a reason for everything. There are a couple of big shows in the near future; my guess is that a working version will be on show with official videos soon after.

I got an email overnight with a voucher code for $50 because I preordered the MK3 MMU back when it was more expensive.

In the email they say that they expect to ship the MMU2 in June, though on the shipping information page Prusa is still saying July.

But the fact that they're showing off a working prototype in public is heartening. I'm hopeful that the long journey will be worth it in the end.

Prusa, himself in the video with Joel said June so crossing my fingers. Even if I'm not in the first batch shipping is shipping.

And who, in the past, has made mention of (at best) extremely optimistic shipping dates? And then let the guys on the chatline take the flak...

During beta-testing of the original MMU, the sheep print was one of the earlier successes, being not very tall (and therefore relatively few filament changes). That beta-test programme threw up many issues over the 6+ months it was running for and the testers were known by their forum posts. I really do hope that there's a beta programme in place for MMU V2, but I haven't heard anything as yet.

Re: MMU2.0 Video Anytime Soon? Anyone?

Here is my notes from the Maker Fair.
Summary; I saw the MMU.2 in action , asked bunch of questions and got answers.
Pros: Possibly decreases the failure due to filament switch, at the expense of 1-2% increase in print time.
Cons: It takes a bit too long in my opinion for it to improve and iterate. Still missing the large audience test.

Notes:
Josef Prusa:
The survey reads that the %75 of MMU users would recommend it to their friends.
We'll have per color wipe depth and wipe into the infill (sli3r alpha already mentions that).

Engineer operating the MMU2:
We'll be tuning and getting ready for the production.
The solution for clogging is "more force" due to direct drive operation.
The print time will increase %1-2
Another Engineer:
We'll have in the (long term) have our own hotend, ceramics and other improvements so that we can improve the product.

Tested had a chat with Josef about the MM2, here's the video:

Not that much new but nice that he confirms they are indeed starting shipping in June. Hopefully mine is sent pretty quickly. Aching to install my 2.5 update but I don't want to lose my MM capabilities.

Josef also stated that there was a 2 month lead-time for new orders of MMU2 (so shipping in August is released in June) and he also mentioned that a cause of failures in the original MMU was users running poor quality filament.

Now, we do know that Josef is usually somewhat optimistic and that what he has stated is not what the shop is telling us. We also know that MMU failures occur when using exclusively PR-supplied filament (is Josef telling us that he sells poor quality filament?).

Personally I wish that he would simply state that it will ship when it's ready to ship. Actually I would prefer that he didn't announce new products until they were working and properly tested.

Josef Prusa:

LOL. I'd like to see those numbers before their "interpretation". Even most engineers wouldn't have that many friends to recommend this to (i.e. tech-savvy, ultra-patient, with money, time and pro-tools on their hands). Frankly I'd feel bad if I recommended it to anyone. Apparently he still never reads the forum. Probably a lot of disappointed users didn't bother enough anymore to fill the survey. This whole disaster resulted in me having a secondary printer at home (which might well become my primary if I ever drunkenly decide to do the MK2.5+MMU2 upgrade).

Josef also stated that there was a 2 month lead-time for new orders of MMU2 (so shipping in August is released in June) and he also mentioned that a cause of failures in the original MMU was users running poor quality filament.

Yep. For example their own (Peter beat me to saying it but SCNR). I had the best results with crap-ass filament from eSun and outright blockage with quite expensive "pro" filament we use at work 24/7 without issues.
"a cause of failures" is also a very good term. Sounds so much better than "one of a hundred causes of failures".

Couldn't agree more.

And my MM1 works flawlessly (the 2nd one I bought, the first one was pure crap) and I use the cheapest PLA I can buy 90% of the time.

Re: MMU2.0 Video Anytime Soon? Anyone?

I don't know if anyone already got their MMU2 (upgrade).

I was kept waiting for my MMU1 for a very long time (spending 330€). But after one weekend of using it, I had to get it off again because it was unworkable. It seemed the printer didn't know what it was doing anymore.
Since then I'm trying to sell my MMU1 and can't find a buyer 🙁 My price is already down to 210€.

Now they say, if I have the Mk2.5 (which I do) I can buy an upgrade from MMU1 to MMU2. But the price of 149€ is only if I order until end of June with a lead time until November! Thats crazy! Thats 5 Months!!!!
For a product where no one can tell if it is working properly or not.
There isn't a list of whats included in the kit, there is no manual for installation, nothing. On what should I base my decision if it's worth waiting or just a waste of money like on MMU1.

But I guess there will be no answers and I don't have the feeling that anyone from Prusa is reading in this forum. 😕

I'm starting to get disappointed and I won't recommend their products anymore if nothing changes 🙁

They are - as far as I know - but I've never known them to comment on this. particular issue.

It's been a Prusa thing forever to just announce products, scrape in cash from people who order it and then make everyone way for months before they start shipping the product. I've actually never known them to ship a newly announced product on the date they announce, it usually is months after that.

We all pass this stage of anger I guess...I mean, I've ordered the multi-media upgrade kit in Januari. A while later, all of a sudden: "Yeah sorry guys, not going to do that. Please bare with us as we develop this other product, which we will ship to you someday."

I've decided I'm not going to buy any more products from Prusa before it is shipping with only a week or 2 lead time.

Re: MMU2.0 Video Anytime Soon? Anyone?

I'd let the MMU 2.0 mature a little more if you don't have an engineering degree, are a chronic tinker and or in a 6+ figure tax bracket. MK3 is getting there, powder coated PEI looks nearly baked (pun not intended). MMU 1 was a dog pile as soon as I saw it, MMU 2 looks better but there are a lot of moving pieces, basically a robotized auto-filament-loader. It is a more Golbergian approach but possibly more fault tolerant due to separation of failure conditions vs. the completely fragile system design of the original, again which I felt was faith too far on part quality, build precision, and a bit of a debug hail-mary. As for myself, I will be waiting on my favorite tech mavens to give it a hard look first but I'm far more encouraged with the design of MMU 2 and will be saving my money units to jump when lead times are within a month. I'd recommend, again if you are not one of the three above to do the same.

Life tip: keep your faith to your spirituality and not your purchase decisions.

Re: MMU2.0 Video Anytime Soon? Anyone?

Shane from the Prusa Research support team posted a video of the MMU 2.0 printing samples at ERRF 2018:

He has some videos posted just after EERF where he discusses the MMU 2.0 prototypes and the powder coated sheet production issues.

One interesting thing is that the MMU 2.0 demonstrated by Josef Prusa at the Prague Maker Faire was apparently a bit newer revision, and uses a PINDA probe-based physical filament sensor instead of the optical sensor, so it supposedly works better on all filaments. It isn't clear if this change is just for the MMU 2.0 filament sensor or if it may also come to the MK3 extruder.

Re: MMU2.0 Video Anytime Soon? Anyone?

yea, so on the one hand, the MMU2.0 is out.
but on the other hand there are still changes to be done?

You can already order the product, but you don't know what you will get in the end. Will it be the first version of MMU2.0 or the second.
Will it be again that you have to print the needed parts by yourself, instead of getting them ready to mount?
Can't remember it for my Mk2.5 upgrade because I had to wait 5 monts to get it, but I'm pretty sure I ordered it with printed parts included.
I even had to modify the files because no matter how I printed them, they didn't fit!

I'm done waiting for products. My next printer will me something else.
