MMU2 - side purge?

Hello,

does any of you know if it is possible to adapt Chroma's side transition (purge) into Slic3r + MMU2 or maybe tried it?

Definitely possible. The firmware allows it already today. So it's up to the slicer developers to make it happen. I haven't seen it implemented for Slic3r+MMU2 yet.

I think that you may have to cut away part of the build plate and heater to do this; the nozzle is limited in its movement and cannot go outside the build plate.

And you would have to print a wall to remove the string from the nozzle.

An early (non-released) version of KISS used this method; is caused huge problems when the purged string got caught in the Y belt and wrapped around the Y pulley, which made the Y pulley larger and Y movement was almost doubled 🙁

For MK2.5 this is not possible because its nozzle doesn’t reach the outer part of the print bed. Cables at hitting the frame of my MK2.5.

Re: MMU2 - side purge?

You want some way to reliably detach the thread from the nozzle if you're going to do side purge. I think some other printers have a brush which will do this.

If you don't do this, then you're likely to get long dangly threads which get attached to the sides of your print and it's going to get really ugly. I've had this happen a few times when the purge tower loses its adhesion to the print bed. Not pretty.
