MMU2 run out of material and use a dedicated spear spule automatically
Hi there,
I do agree on the discussed things, if you do a bigger job go for a spule with enough material on it.
But ….
I could think of an solution, that once the printer recognizes its running out of material it takes the next spule.
I run quite often 20 hours jobs with 2 colors and it would be helpful to run the main color on the first spule, the second color on the second and having on the third the extra color in case of running out of material of the main color …
any ideas or should I ask prusa if there is something in the pipeline?
regards Stefan

The feature already exists. Look for the Spool Join option in the Settings menu.

I was unaware such a feature existed. When I've emptied a spool, I've always had to move one of my other spools to the feed tube that had just run out. It's pretty quick to do, but having the MMU simply resume printing from a different feed would be nice.

Hi gnat, could you be a bit more specific how to find it? Is it on version 2.4.0 available? Thanks a lot.

It's in the printer settings, not the slicer.

Press the button on your printer, scroll to "Settings" and there you'll find a setting to join spools, which is defaulted to "off".
I recently got new filament, so I'm not anywhere near using up any of the spools. It'll be a long while before I can see how this feature works.

works only if filament sensor is on - thanks

It shouldn't explicitly need the filament sensor as it's the FINDA that handles the runout detection when the MMU is installed (otherwise there wouldn't be enough material to perform an unload). But does the MMU even work at all without the IR sensor enabled? It's kind of integral to the whole tool change process (unlike the days of the old laser sensor).
