MMU2 making noise even when not in use?

I just finished assembling the MMU2 and just turned on the printer to go through the calibration process and I noticed that after the MMU goes through its startup process it makes a soft humming noise? If it wasn't because I built the thing myself and know it's not possible I'd swear there's a fan in there, that's the sound it makes.

Any ideas what it could be? I could easily leave the MK3 turned on without any problem but this noise, while not loud, is bothersome. (Our printer is situated in the living room 😉 )

Same here...
Sounds like one of the stepper motors is 'always stepping' although nothing is moving.

Sounds like a fan, very noticeable.

So it makes this terrible noise on the MK3 as well.
Have assembled and installed mine and stopped before I could finish the preflight tests as the hiss just hurt my ears too much.
Is it just me or do new products look more and more like "alpha" status, you can't possible call this "beta".

After a chat with support, they told me I need to flash the printer with a new firmware. Hope it will help...

just kind of interesting but even with the new firmware the MMU does make a small amount of noise. it doesn't sound like a stepper motor on mine however the interesting part is my CAT can apparently hear the noise and does not like going near the machine now. i noticed my cat acting weird about a week ago when the Machine was printing in the basement and when i turn off the machine she is ok around it. must be a really high pitch it makes outside of human hearing range.

RE: MMU2 making noise even when not in use?

I have this as well, and I do have the latest firmware (at the time of writing, MMU firmware 1.0.6, MK3S firmware 3.8.1).  Also, the Idler stepper is warm.  This should be doing absolutely nothing right now, not stressing the board and motor with whatever position hold it is trying to do.  Just doesn't seem right.

I also checked all the motors on the printer itself, and the Z motors are warm also.  This, to me, just should not be happening.

Settings -> MMU Mode Normal vs Stealth.
Normal will cause faint white noise sound from the mmu steppers.

Likely same for the regular steppers that also got a normal vs stealth setting.
