MMU2 Feels Like A Beta Product

It has been about a month with the MMU2, I have printed a few minor objects, I have contact Prusa support, they even sent new gears, and I am official frustrated and placing this item on the shelf for the next few weeks, maybe months until there is official resolution within the community or with Prusa.

The MK3 is a great printer, but with the MMU2 'upgrade' I feel so let down. It feels like a beta product. It does not work flawlessly, needs constant coddling, breaks down, I have adjusted screws a trillion times, without much success. It is inconsistent and unrealiable.

For the technically savvy, and tinker that is willing to spend the many many hours of fiddling around to get it to work, and trying to print out new unofficial parts, this is for you. For those, that expect to assembly, eat that final gummy bear, calibrate a few times, and send your prints to the printer, you are sadly mistaken.

Go buy gummy bears in bulk, you will need them!
In fact have a weekly shipment delivered to you.

Prusa, it's great to see that you are expanding and adding new products to you line.
I hope you don't stretch your company to thin, cause this product feels rushed, and is a red flag in my book.

Ohh by, they way my original order was February 9th for the MMU2 upgrade. Considering the state of this product I will never pre-order again, in fact probably wait months after the release and see user feedback. I'm defiantly not going to consider ordering the SL1 printer after my experience with this product, and would cation all those who maybe considering to.

Agreed, no one should pre-order unless they are comfortable with and enjoy tinkering on a hobbyist open source machine.

I, however, enjoy tinkering. I'm having a blast with my MMU2, and I've got an SL1 and the curing/washing machine on pre-order.

That said, I wouldn't recommend my mother get one, or anybody that was planning to base a business off of plug and play reliability. That generally applies to most reasonably priced 3d printers (FDM or resin) these days.

Re: MMU2 Feels Like A Beta Product

I finally received my MMU2 and had time to assemble it yesterday. Here is my experience:
The assembly was easy as usually. It took couple hours to do it nice and slowly. I had to clean up some plastic parts but except of that everything was straight forward.
My MK3 was updated to most recent parts and was printing reliable for many hours/prints. So I had a good working base for the upgrade. No extruder upgrade was needed during the MMU2 installation.
Once everything was installed and firmware was upgraded, I did the tube length calibration for all 5 tubes. After that I printed the original presliced sheep. It failed first time. The tip got too thick and during filament unload it failed. I'm using Makergeeks PLA and it does like to print hotter (235C) but the presliced sheep is for 205C. So I changed the temp to 215C and reduced the flow rate to 90% and the second try was successful.

My first impression is very positive. I got the first successful print the first day and the sheep looks really nice, even with the "not supported hot" filament. Next step is to slice models and work on the settings to improve the filament tip. It still looks a little bit too thick.
