How do you handle running out of filament mid-print?

Is there a way to use the "eject filament" feature during a print? The tube from the selector to extruder is much shorter than the tube from the MMU to the buffer. When it unloads, I can't reach it. I have to pull the tube from the selector, tell it to load (which causes it to eject through the selector), pull it out, replace the tube, then feed in the new filament. I feel like there should be a way to move the selector to a different position, then eject the filament, and move the selector back to the desired filament.

You will never get a clean filament change mid print. Always has a blemish where you change it.

If a print you care about, start with a roll that has enough to finish it and save the leftover for a smaller print.

I have the pass through adapter installed on my MMU2 ( https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/6605-prusa-mmu2-ptfe-holder-m10-passthrough-adapter ). So I can just unplug the PTFE feeding into the MMU2 and remove the rest of the filament while the printer is using a different one... Feeding the new one is a bit difficult as I rarely nail the exact feeding position. I either have to wait for the next filament load of the respective slot and feed it in or deal with a loading error after the MMU2 tried and did not catch the new filament.

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

I'm not worried about blemishes on the print for most cases. In the rare exceptions where I do care, I'll use a larger roll.

I have the same passthrough adapter, but I can't get to it easily since mine is in an enclosure. I can keep doing what I'm doing, but it seems like having the eject function available when changing filaments is something that would be very useful. Perhaps I'll submit that as a suggestion for their next firmware.
