Firmware 3.4.1-FINAL for Original Prusa i3 MK3 MMU2

Hi guys,
new firmware 3.4.1 is out! This is a final release recommended to all users 😉

What is new?
This release is focused on further improving the filament sensor reliability, lowering the number of false detections and fixing several critical bugs.
The changelog is the same as for 3.4.1-RC1:

Stealth mode fixed
This issue manifests itself as slow Z-axis movements. This was caused by a bug in storing custom values to EEPROM (M500 and M501 G-codes). These two G-codes were updated to avoid a similar issue in the future.

"The filament sensor response is poor, disable it?" temporarily disabled
This was a new feature introduced with filament sensor engine 2.0. Unfortunately, this feature seems to be too sensitive and unreliable so we disabled it for now and we are working on the improved version of it.

Bug fixes
- Filament runout detection bug #1154 fixed
- Stealth mode bug #1152 fixed
- Statistics during active print bug #1151 fixed
- OctoPrint "Printer reset detected" warning #1184 issue fixed

Supported printers:
Original Prusa i3 MK3
Original Prusa i3 MK3 Multi Material 2.0
Original Prusa i3 MK2.5

Re: Firmware 3.4.1-FINAL for Original Prusa i3 MK3/MK2.5 MMU2

Dear,
Getting some trouble with firmware MK3 3.4.1 and 0.9.0 for MMU 2.0.
Since the software upgrade and using a single filament from slot 1.
(Waiting on new firmware to allow Boden length set-up for all 5 filaments.)
But mean while I’ve noticed 2 issues that I encountered very often.
1) Stop printing function
I’m using it to stop the print when there is a first layer issue or too much wrap.
Since MMU 2.0 installation and more over with the latest firmware, most of the time the filament doesn’t unload properly and get stuck/jam on the upper part of the extruder.

2) Filament load (MMU 2.0
Very often, I’m not able to load the filament on MMU 2.0 unit.
I go to the menu, select load filament 1, the pulley motor start to run, but the filament doesn’t load. And when I look to the rotating pulley barrel, I can notice that the filament 1 bearing is up on release position rather than be down to catch the filament.
I have to switch the printer OFF/ON once or twice to have it do a proper MMU 2.0 initialization and have it working OK.

I was not having those behavior before the firmware upgrade.
Any suggestion? 😉
Thanks in advance for your reply.
Regards
Olivier

MMU2.0 on MK2.5 using this firmware not working. Should rename the title to Firmware 3.4.1-FINAL for Original Prusa i3 MK3 MMU2.

Re: Firmware 3.4.1-FINAL for Original Prusa i3 MK3/MK2.5 MMU2

This is a pretty simple request:

I would like to turn the printer on, select the first file from the SD card, and have the printer DO THE SAME THING it does if I do it again.

When I turn the printer on cold, with all the filaments pre-loaded, and the SD card untouched, the MMU may or may not home the drum. It may or may not home the selector. The selector may end up at the far right, the far left, or somewhere in the middle.

When the printer is booted, the MMU will do this again. Perhaps moving, perhaps just flashing lights.

It will likely feed some filament out, possibly into the waiting selector, generally not. It might ask me to trim the end, and if you press any button at this point, it will bend the extended filament over and jam. Maybe. It might feed the filament forward, and it might feed it backward. I would suspect that it's the lower filament sensor triggering a change, but it is unclear, especially with the unhomed MMU sollowing up with random moves.

Something happened with the newest firmware - I'm not sure if it's 1.0.0.-117 on the MMU or 1.3.4-1356 on the printer... But am important assumption of g-code is that following the instructions in order will leave the printer in a defined state.

I'm getting the same weirdness as abraham.m since updating to 3.4.1 and 1.0.1. Did anyone there try to do a print in "single filament" mode with the mmu2 attached? It's basically bat-shit crazy. After asking what filament you wish to use, it will load it into the extruder as desired, but then the print head moves off to the right and the printer unloads the filament. After that, the selector will move over to the right and the mmu will spit out some filament. The printer will then ask you to remove it or something like that. If you just press the knob, in goes back to the selected position with the filament jamming sideways under it. If you push back or cut flush the filament before this happens, it will load and the unload the filament again, repeating the same odd cycle. I had to turn the unit on with filament loaded passed the selector to force the printer to ignore the mmu2. Then I still could not get it to load filament the normal way until I turned off autoload since that depends on the optical sensor but the printer is still using the mmu2's sensor.

Sorry my mistake, FW for MK2.5 MMU2 should be out very soon.

I decided this is because of the optical filament sensor. I was very confused by this (there's nothing on the display to tell you it is not a user-initiated or pre-programmed filament change), but since I turned the sensor off I've stopped having that particular error. There might be more issues compounded here, but the trigger is the sensor.

I guess it's not major enough to put a changelog?

Does anyone have any idea - if it's all 2.5 stuff there's no reason for me to try it, but I'd be happy to help test.

Thanks for this. That seemed to appease the MMU2 gods. I'm not sure why this works since I'm pretty sure the MK3 considers the PINDA sensor to be its filament sensor when the MMU2 is connected and ignores the optical sensor. Unfortunately, the feature the lets you use the next spool automatically when the precious one is empty (auto deplete) depends on the filament sensor being enabled. Hmm. I may have to downgrade my firmware until they sort this out because I'm going to need that function soon on a long print. My MMU2 gears are all about equal so I can live without the individual filament length calibration for now.

Anyway, thanks for the heads-up.

Cheers,
Brian

You already know this, but tweaking the feeding settings - getting speeds and arbitrary length changes fixed most if the issues with the mismatched gears, depending how far off they are.
