Firmware 1.0.4-FINAL for the MMU2 unit

UPDATE: New version is out https://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/general-discussion-announcements-and-releases-f53/firmware-1-0-5-for-the-mmu2s-and-mmu2-unit-t28164.html

WARNING: This release is for MK3/MK2.5 + MMU2 only, owners of the MK3S/MK2.5S + MMU2S please wait with the upgrade

Hi guys,
this is an upgrade of the firmware for the MMU2 control board inside the multi-material unit. This is a final version recommended to all users.

What is new in the final release??
->MK2.5 + MMU homing hotfix:
Selector position after homing is now more accurate on MK2.5+MMU2 setup.

->Drive error detection improved:
False drive error could sometimes appear after powering-up printer. This has been fixed.
---

New features introduced previously in firmware 1.0.4-RC1
-> Drive error detection and counter
-> Undesired unload fixed
-> Improved eject

Drive error detection and counter:
MMU2 unit can now deal with a state where Trinamic drivers were not able to provide enough power for steppers. A possible cause can be broken MMU2 power supply wiring, connectors etc. If this state is detected the MMU2 unit rehomes and automatically continues printing. If the problem occurs three times in a row, the MMU2 unit stops printing and starts flashing continuously with red and green LEDs. Also, MMU2 unit stores information about all drive errors into its memory and the total number of drive errors can be shown in the menu "Fail Stats MMU -> Total" as item "MMU power fails" (printer FW 3.5.2-RC1 and higher).

Undesired unload fixed:
There was a scenario where MMU2 unloaded filament out of Bondtech gears instead of parking it to the default position. This state needed user intervention. This bug has been fixed in the current FW version.

Improved eject:
The filament is now retracted when recovering from eject, so it doesn't get broken if the user forgets to remove it.
---

Supported printers:
Original Prusa i3 MK3 MMU2
Original Prusa i3 MK2.5 MMU2

Note: Use Slic3r PE 1.41.2 or latest to flash the MMU2 control board

We look forward to your feedback!

Re: Firmware 1.0.4-FINAL for the MMU2 unit

I upgraded my MK3 MMU2 with the latest firmware 3.5.2 and 1.0.4 did a factory reset and ran a couple of multicolour test prints, on each occasion the printer just stopped after a couple of minutes and reset. Reflashed the printer and mmu to the previous level ie 3.5.1 and 1.0.3 did a factory reset and all is well.
Has anyone experienced anything similar.

Did you try 3.5.1 printer firmware with the MMU2 1.0.4-final firmware?

Re: Firmware 1.0.4-FINAL for the MMU2 unit

I haven't tried any combinations like that as I'm sure the modules are tailored for each other and I wouldn't want to bring in any unwanted side effects. I did try flashing the printer and mmu twice just in case there was any corruption. My printer and MMU run perfectly with 3.5.1 and 1.0.3 so it is not really a problem for me, I just like to keep my hardware on the current versions of firmware. I will just wait for another release or fix in the meantime, thanks for your input.

That's all pretty understandable. I've been struggling with getting my mmu2 to function, so my FW versions are all over the place. If I could even get the thing to print, I'd probably not want to fool with mismatched firmware either!

I had a lot of problems with the thing for the first few weeks until I sorted out the feed issues, once they were sorted it runs pretty well trouble free now with no modifications to the software. I discarded all the supplied feed equipment and through trial and error came up with my own solution with polyboxes. The 2 outside rolls are fed from the bottom, 3 middle rolls from the top, no filament brakes. I have run a few 20 hour 5 colour prints through it without issue.

That's a super cool solution. Nice job. I haven't gotten into solving my own feed issues yet - but I want to ditch as much of the PTFE tube as possible... Thanks for sharing your setup.

I have a similar setup using IKEA Samla boxes. But I wish I could find a way for the unloaded filament to be retracted back into the dry box. I want to use PVA as a support interface, but I understand that even short amounts of time in >50% humidity gives poor print results.

Saw this on Thingiverse https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3268855 . Haven´t tested it myself yet...

That is an AWESOME solution. I love these plastic printed coil springs that make this work!

I've been looking for closed boxes sufficient for the spools. I've seen a few others but they all have to have their own roller elements and I'm un-easy adding other variables (I'm getting fairly reliable multi-colored prints now). Where did you find those boxes? They look commercial. I'd like a closed container for the hygroscopic materials since the print times are so long with these multi-material prints.
