Can we have a official update please

My MMU is set to ship next month. I read about some success but overwhelmingly I read failure after failure. One thing I haven't read in a while is a comment from prusa.

I am semi confident that prusa will work out the problems eventually, but it would be so refreshing as a customer to at least hear from the company that there is a plan in place. The only thing I've seen was a couple months ago on face book. Shane posted a unofficial update that basically said multimaterial printing is hard and not for everyone.

If that is the official response, then that is fine, but please tell us so that I/we can make a informed decision to keep this purchase or not.

Thank you.

Casey

Re: Can we have a official update please

It's very rare that some officials are posting an update in this forum. This is more a from user to user place. Official statements you can find in the blog/twitter/facebook. Most recent developments can be found on github.

If the failure reports concerns you, I suggest you cancel the MMU2 order. Whatever issues you had with MK3, you add additional complexity on top. Most common issues are tied to the filament path (beginning with the holder and ending at the bondtech gear) and the filament properties.
But as you can see on the success stories, it can be handled and MMU2 design is going in the right direction to became a real multi material unit, not only multi color-same filament brand MMU like MMU1.

Hey thanks! Prusa Should hire you! I'll be cancelling my order right now.

The reason I posted here was because I have frequently seen prusa employees post here and I'm constantly reading how prusa listens to their customer.

But thanks for letting me know that they don't. And thanks for saving me the 300usd.

No need to be sarcastic. Site admins are not necessary PR employees. From Prusa himself I've seen like handful posts in one year. Wouldn't call it frequently.
I gave you my honest MMU2 opinion. If you're already worried now, then you will be disappointed later. This unit will make your printer less reliable because of more complexity added and software/firmware under high development flow. Anyway it's possible to get already now good results and I'm pretty sure it will get better and better like any previous hardware PR releases.

But thanks for letting me know that they don't. And thanks for saving me the 300usd.

I didn't say that. But looks like this is what you want to hear.

Re: Can we have a official update please

I have given up mine since I could not print without a single jam. What I need is a MMU that can be left printing without jamming.

Currently waiting for Palette 2.0 shipment this week to replace MMU2.0.

Nikolai.r gave you a straightforward answer. I'm not sure if you meant your post to read as sarcastically as it does, but it comes across as a bit rude.

Re: Can we have a official update please

IMHO, the MMU 2.0 is still very much an alpha / beta product. I do think it will be an excellent product later down the road after several firmware revisions and maybe even a revision of some 3d printed parts. As frustrating as the experience is right now I can at least take some solace knowing that they're working on it and it will get better down the road.

So with that being said you have a few options.

Option 1: You keep your order knowing that it's riddled with bugs and your chance of getting consistent successful prints is minimal knowing it will get better down the road with future updates.

Or

Option 2: You cancel now and decide later on whether or not you want to make an investment later down the road.

Personally, despite my expressed frustration I knew what I was signing up for an I went with option 1.

Also, with either option you must also consider that 3d printing is still a hobby and will require some tweaking and modding.

Re: Can we have a official update please

Palette Pro 2 is in interesting in that it preslices the colors and merges them into one long Filament which is timed with the gcode.
if there is a situation were palette pro gets out of sync then i can see it failing.

somekind of extruder jam on either mmu2 or palette pro would lead to similar failure. I can see needing to keep the filament kind of in the same heat range and similar materials. but nothing unlike limitation with the MMU2

but Palette Pro 2 has lots of advantages.
* you can retrofit any 3d printer with it the printer sees no difference it is still a single material printer that is being fed a continuous filament.
* no loading or unloading constantly. filament is always continuous in one direction, this leaves you back open to after market nozzles and mods, no ramming needed.

cost wise it is more then the MMU2. but again it is pretty portable and configurable to all kinds of 3d printers and manufacturers.
good to see new ideas and how they work.
