Wipe Tower filament clumps

I'm using an MKS3 printer. I've had good, consistent results printing with PLA, PETG and TPU. I've ordered a kit to upgrade from MKS3 to MKS3+ with the intention to eventually add an MMU2S. I've been experimenting with multiple filament colors in 1 print. Initially, I used different colors on different layers with the color change feature in PrusaSlicer version 2.3.3 with good results. Lately, I've been doing experiments with coplanar multi-color. I've tried this with simulated, multiple extruders, changing filament out manually with M600 tool change commands. I've had some success but quality has been inconsistent. I recently tried adding a wipe tower and the quality improved. Following a filament color change, the printer advances the filament according to the LCD instructions. I manually remove the excess filament from the print bed. The print head moves to the wipe tower and unfortunately immediately advances a large amount of filament (without moving in either the x or y axis.) Following this, the print head starts moving back and forth, expelling a small amount of filament on the passes. The excess filament deposited on the wipe tower at the beginning of the wipe tower event creates a small "hill" of filament that hardens, creating a crash hazard. I've used diagonal cutters to trim the "hill" to avoid crashes.

Is there a configuration value that would allow me to reduce the amount of filament at the beginning of the wipe, when the print head is stationary?

RE: Wipe Tower filament clumps

I'm interested in this same question. I took a picture of my wipe tower to share. What is going on with those giant clumps? I had to kill my print so that it didn't crash.
