MMU2S Hardware List?

First, I realize that I may be getting ahead of myself.  But in an effort to minimize shipping to the USA, I'm trying to determine everything I'll need for a single purchase of an i3 MK3S+ and MMU2S (which I'll put together after building and calibrating the MK3S+).

A lot of posts recommend upgrading several of the MMU2S printable parts to avoid the numerous reliability issues that have been reported.  That being the case, I'm considering printing all the parts myself, and ordering only the MMU2S hardware.

1) Is there a guide anywhere where anyone has done this?  There seem to be a handful of commonly recommended upgrades but no single post, article, or video outlining which parts to use as-is, and which to upgrade.

2) Is there a list of hardware to purchase?  I could go through the build documentation and gather all the hardware components that are listed with each step, but if a list already exists that would be ideal.

Note that I'll still buy the hardware through Prusa - I'm happy to give them my money.  But if I can save money by buying only the hardware and printing the (upgraded) printable parts, that seems better than buying the entire kit and then having to replace certain parts anyway.

Thanks!

RE: MMU2S Hardware List?

I don't have a formal list, but from memory, the motors, the circuit board, the trapezoidal nut, and a few oddball metal parts, will be what you need.

The bearings should be stock items.

I know that I would be able to make the cable assembly easily, but not everyone would be able too.  It might be worth it to just order it.

There's also some re-assembly of the extruder required, and you will need to print those parts as well.

If I were doing this, I would totally skip the stock buffer.

What am I forgetting here?

RE: MMU2S Hardware List?

FYI, in case others are interested in the same approach, it may not be financially feasible.

I went through the online instructions, noting the parts that were required.  I left out any printed parts with the exception of the two parts that Prusa says are not user-replaceable (because they "come with pre-installed M5 brass threaded insert from factory").  I made it most of the way through the instructions before I realized that I'd already hit $300.  That being the case, it looks like it's cheaper to buy the MMU2S as a kit rather than in pieces.

For reference, I've included the price list of components below.  They're split out by instruction (rather than grouped together).  Note that this should not be used as a parts list, as it is not complete!  (It's close, but missing a few cables, etc.  I stopped when I realized that there would be no price advantage.)

Please let me know if I'm missing something, or have included something I shouldn't.  Since I don't have an MK3S+ yet, it was sometimes difficult for me to determine whether a part was from the printer or the MMU2S kit.  That said, I tried to use the tags on the spare parts website to ensure I only selected MMU2S parts.

If the list below is accurate, it would be better to buy the kit - not only would you spend more buying it piecemeal, but you risk missing some parts and would still have to print all the printable parts.  It's frustrating to feel like I'll replace some of the printed parts anyway, and can't save by printing it myself.  But it is what it is, and I thought I'd share what I'd found.

Thanks,

~Dean
