MMU2 Not Purging Before Single Color Print
Hello,
I have my MMU2 all built and calibrated. I tried to print a standard single color print as my first test of the printer. I selected a print from the SD and the machine started warning up. It did not ask me which filament I wanted to use. It then started the bed leveling program, still no filament loaded to the extruder. It then did the single line purge with no filament and it was not until after this step, it just loaded Filament 1 to the extruder and started the print.
This is really odd behavior because the filament is not loaded at the correct time and the filament is not purged after loading to the extruder. This causes the print to start without having the filament all the way into the extruder and obviously causes a failed print due to no filament coming out for the first layer or two.
Am I doing something wrong for single color prints? Do I need to re-slice everything I have? I hope not!
Thank you

Make sure the MMU is fully booted up and that you see an F# on your LCD before starting the print.
Which gcode did you test? Was it one for the MMU2 or just a generic MK3 gcode?
Try slicing a simple object using MMU Single profile in slic3r and printing that one.
Re: MMU2 Not Purging Before Single Color Print
Hi Joey,
Thank you for the reply. I did see F1 on the screen before I started the print from the SD. This was a single color sliced model that I had created with Simplify3D before I installed the MMU2. Are these files no longer able to work with the MMU2 installed?
I will try and slice something new and give it a shot. Thank you!
Re: MMU2 Not Purging Before Single Color Print
OK just a follow-up on this.
It looks like I am going to have to regenerate ALL of my single color gcode files for this machine now that I have the MMU2 installed. The Slic3r software does a fine job working with the MMU2, but Simplify3D does not yet support it.
Thanks!
Re: MMU2 Not Purging Before Single Color Print
So I have just fitted MMU2 to one of my Mk3's. The other one is standard. Does this mean I have to slice files differently for each one then, presumably by making sure to select the correct printer type in Slic3r? Or can I set up and run two different Slic3r configs set for each printer?
Re: MMU2 Not Purging Before Single Color Print
For now, you have to generate a new G-code for the MMU2 modified printer.
Our firmware team is considering a firmware extension, so the MMU2 printer may process non-MMU2 G-codes without reslicing.

Vojtech
Would that mean that other slicers will not work with the proposed firmware extension?

Re: MMU2 Not Purging Before Single Color Print
I don't know yet. One will likely have to adjust the start and end codes. We have to check with the firmware team.
