MMU2 load failure

Hi

I have just upgraded to MMU2 and MK3S. Together with this upgrade the problems started.

I can't get the printer to load the filament correctly (no matter which one I use). The MMU is pushing the filament correctly to the printer head. Looking at the sensors FINDA and IR return 1. But then then filament is being unloaded. The MMU2 has a green light, but the printer is showing "MMU2 Ladefehler" (German for "MMU2 load error").

I checked the tension on the week in the printer head, it is fine. I already exchanged the nozzle, because I thought it might be jamed. Nothing solved the issue.

I copied the Octoprint output and shortened it a little by removing the temperature and the repetition values.

Does anyone have an idea what the problem could be? I am lost and no printing is possible anymore.

Regards

Oliver

Hi,

I had the same Problem and Setting the MMU2S back to factory Default solved the Problem (Printing handbook of the MMU2S 13.13 MMU2S factory reset)

If resetting the MMU doesn't work (it didn't for me), try reflashing the firmware (that was my final solution).

Thanks, for the moment it appears as if resetting helped, although I still think it is strange. It looks a little beta to me.

I will keep on testing, thank you for the help.

Hi everybody: when you perform the factory reset of MMU are you also doing the filament lenght calibration?

I've done 2 reset + calibration, but it seem my MMU2s is going every time worse

Theoretically, the later firmware (3.7.0 onwards) on the "S" version has auto-calibration and so there is no need to calibrate manually.

RE: MMU2 load failure

Rather than start another thread, I hope you don't mind if I piggy back off of this one.  I just finished building/connecting my MMU2S.  Was doing the first filament load and pushed the filament through the ptfe tube to the mmu2s unit.  Selected load filament but the motor never turns to feed the filament through.  If I do load to extruder, the extruder heats up (like it normally would) and the motor turns there but the filament is not being pulled by the MMU2s.  thoughts?

Well so far I can tell you how I finally managed it.

  • check if all 5 PTFE tubes arriving at MMU are free. Open the MMU and try to feed filament through each of those. This is were my first problem was. I could not get these tubes free. This helped me to fix it: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3233579 , but I suppose gentle adjusting might help too
  • Make sure the FINDA sensor works - Menu Settings -> Sensors will show you the status
  • when closing the MMU did you read the handbook? Do not tighten to hard, otherwise it will not work.
  • the next problem I had was the IR sensor calibration (the handbook describes on how to do it).

So I suppose I stepped in every stupid mistake I could make. It was more then a frustrating week it took me to get this all done.

Don't stop trying, the reward are multi color prints - I love it.

Well, I got the filament to load and did  a single color print to check bed adhesion.  Worked great.  Loaded a 2nd color to try a 2 color gear.  Using Prusa Filament and the print starts.  But I get an MMU load error.  I remove the 2nd filament clip the end and reload.  Seems everytime it changes filament I get an MMU load error.  Happened at 9%, then at 15% then at 21%.  I finally just canceled the print.  I had to even remove one of the ptfe tubes because I can't get the filament removed from the tube.  Yes JUST the tube.  Swapped the tube to get the print to go again but it still gave the MMU load error.   I'm getting nothing but load failures.  There has to be a way to solve this.  Filament when pulled for the next filament has either a ball on the end or just a damaged end that causes the load failure.

well then I am afraid I don't know how to help. Did you contact the Chat support of Prusa? It takes a few moments for them to answer, but they did also help me quite well. Might be a good idea to ask them. Sorry that I can't help, maybe someone else has an idea.
