Is there automatic color switching with the mmu2s?
I am trying to set up an i3 mk3s with the mmu2s, and I cannot figure out automatic color switching. Is that a thing with this setup, where I could just set a print and forget it? Or do I always have to manually check it and switch it myself? And regardless of which one it is, how do I do it?

Hi Zach,
the only automatic colour switching option on the Mk3S with MMU2s is 'Spool Join'
where the MMU attempts to use up old roll ends
but this has problems if the end of the roll is bent sharply, on the roll, ( better to trin the end off before hand, if you can

So the only other way to have it switch between materials, is for me to come over and tell it to do so when I am prompted?

What I am trying to do is on a single part, how do I get everything above one layer one color, and below it a different color?

to the best of my knowledge I have identified the only fully automatic way to change colours in the previous response.
If on the other hand, you want to be able to program colour changes to happen, using the MMU2... than that can be done as shown with the samples above.
you create a number of STL's that mesh together to give the result that you want, import them into an MMU profile in Prusa Slicer, then allocate the appropriate extruder to the appropriate STL, and the slicer should automate the feeding of filaments for you.
You need to either load all parts together, and Prusa slicer will ask if you want to treat them as a multi material print,
or Load one piece, right click on that piece and use the add part option to add other elements
if you add the parts separately, you will get the effect on the right hand picture above, instead of the parts being corectly aligned as on the left!

Ok, that makes sense. Do you know of a way that I can split the part, but still have it be one piece, so that I can import it like that? I only have the .stl of the part

Meshmixer seems to be the best tool for splitting STLs. It's a bit of a pain but it mostly works.
Update Prusa SLicer 2.4 will allow users to 'Paint' sections of STL's for colour changes
