Re: IR sensor only reads 0

I believe my kit had the chimney with festo receiver in it. Hopefully that festo is just threaded into a pilot hole and not some kind of heat set design.

The festo insert is not threaded in to the plastic. It has teeth and it is either press or heat fitted. Either way to remove it you will have to destroy the plastic around it. Source - I've done it 🙁

Mine does not seem to work. Do I need to turn it "on"?

I re-printed the upper IR sensor (again in eSun) but it sounds like fitting it with the Festo requires me to destroy the original part that came with my kit. I also believe mine was supplied with Festo installed as you noted. I'll probably use my Dremmel tool to lengthen the slot before I use my newly printed part.

How did you get your Festo out and get it transplanted into the one you printed with the Prusa supplied PETG?

You don't need to reprint the piece with the festo (I didn't). It's separate from the "chimney" part.

Thank you guys.

My trigger was printed in eSun green PETG and it failed to trigger the IR sensor.

After reading this post, I painted the tip of the trigger with correction pen (white,  I think correction pen has better blocking effect) and it worked!

A simple solution for failure due to translucent material.

Hello,

Is the replacement sensor worked for you? I have the same problem, tried to place a thin object between the "U" part of the sensor but it was always 0.

I had the same problem using Esun filament. I used a small piece of painters tape to get the printer to work then reprinted the extruder-idler-mmu2s with the supplied filament.  Mine went to a constant state of 1.  It just needed a little filing and it is perfectly reliable now.

Thank you guys for the ideas, I was getting frustrated.

Hate to bump this but my sensor also only returns 0, when I physically obstruct the gap between the two parts of the sensor with a piece of metal (the provided wrenches).

Any idea? Prusa is sending a replacement but I'm trying to figure out if it's just the cable or if it's also the sensor that's broken.

most common issues are
plugged into wrong connector on einsy,

plugged in wrong way round

plug offset on connector

wiring fault

have you tested for 5 volts on the sensor connectors?

RE: IR sensor only reads 0

Thank you for the information in this thread about solving Mk3s MMU2 IR sensor issues. I have the factory printed PETG extruded idler which worked well out of the box.  I have found over time that the arm that triggers the IR sensor has deformed over time and is intermittently not detected. I have printed the extruded idler in black Prusament PC blend and it is reliable again. It would be great if the sensor state can be seen easily as I have had a frustrating 2 months until I worked out what was going on.
