IR Sensor Calibration not working

Okay I powered through the MMU2s upgrade to my MK3 very carefully. Following the pre-flight instructions it powers up fine and the MMU2s can load filament, but the next step is IR calibration which detects if filament is present at the extruder.

My understanding is the concept of the sensor is that when filament is fed into the extruder the spring-loaded side moves out and slides a fin into the IR detector slot and blocks it. The sensor slot ("chimney") slides back and forth so that you can adjust when it senses the filament. So what is the logic behind inserting a tiny Allen key into the filament path and the sensor changing value?

That said, my sensor toggles 1/0 as I move the chimney back and forth, but never-ever senses the Allen key. Even if I put the big Allen key in, or a piece of filament, nothing changes.

So I'm not sure where to go next as this is a critical part of the startup and currently a blocking item for me.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Steve

Ugh - another user error, I missed the very important rest-of-the-sentence that said to push down the Allen key to separate the Bondtech gears, which of course would test the IR sensor correctly. This is what happens when you're building at midnight I suppose...

I seem to not be a little hesitant about jamming a steel Allen key into my Bondtech gears...I would hate to scratch or deform them in any way. Anyhow I'm off to the races again in my pre-flight check.

As I said in another thread, you can gently push the sensor 'flag' in and get it to trigger that way.

When I assembled mine, I was dreading that part, and actually printed a couple of remixed sensor flags in case I needed them, which I did not.
