How to set up?

I got the MMU2s kit and took apart and built the parts indicated on the manuals page on

https://manual.prusa3d.com/c/Original_Prusa_i3_MK3S_to_MMU2S

... how do I put them all together?  Each section goes through to build the MMU2s unit, extruder, buffer, and filament trays... but how do I connect the buffer to the MMU2s unit, and how does the filament spool(I assume it simply rests on the assembled tray) feed into the buffer?

What are the hooks on the buffer for?

I feel like I'm missing a section or am looking at the wrong place for instructions?

Thanks,

RE: How to set up?

I had some questions for this also... I would suggest not using the buffer and printing these https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/171-universal-auto-rewind-spool-holder-single-color ; I have had so much better luck with these. You can use the bearings from the default setup. It simplifies the whole process significantly. If you have any questions on assembly of this let me know. I would be more than happy to help

The hooks on the buffer are for the printer to sit on the hooks to stablize the buffer. Overall the spools sit on the rollers with the black trays and the filament runs to the buffer with the short PTFE tubes connected on one side. The other side you have to "fish" the filament through by straightening it as best as possible to get it to the other side. Then you insert it to the oppposite side PTFE that runs to the MMU unit. At first I was very lost but I would be more than happy to help.

Yikes.... that certainly does help.  Is there a guide that I skipped?  Pictures would definitely help for this assembly step.

No I dont think it is referenced anywhere in the manual... I could post some.

RE: How to set up?

Rather annoyingly (in my opinion) the setup of the buffer is in the user manual rather than the assembly guide. Makes sense that it is there, but they could have a direct link from the assembly.

I can't use the buffer as I simply don't have the space to support it. I tried printing the spool holder that has a buffer built into it, but it is not working well at all. Next I'll try an auto rewind option.

In the meantime I am using the buffered spool (sans going through it's buffer) and one of the factory holders. In both I'm using bearings where I pulled the seals and cleaned out the factory grease so they spin far more freely. This is going OK for a two filament test, but I'm now suspecting that the tool change issues I've had are due to filament interacting with the bed heater cable. I won't do a 5 filament test until I get a real solution in place.

what.  WHAT.  I agree with this being annoying.  But thanks for the info(emphasis mine).  I'll finally get this setup complete.  Now... off to firmware updates!

🤞
