Given some of the troubles people are having with MMU2s, can I do a manual filament change for soluble layer?

Say I am printing a hat or dome that needs support...

I'm worried that I won't be able to break out my supports easily and/or cleanly enough.

My hope was to add an MMU2S and have a soluble layer between the support and the object.

My printer is about at 4 weeks of backorder/queue, my filament is in transit, the MMU2s is not available now.

Sounds like I should hold off on the MMU2.  I did order regular and soluble filament on my order that is inbound.

Can I use PrusaSlicer to manually make a filament change at the top layer of the supports?

Thanks for any advice.

Still waiting on my printer shipment (3.5 wks so within the advertised times still) but my box of filament, extra sheet etc came today.

Gentle bump for any advice please.

I will be digging more in manuals to find out if this is possible or how hard PETG supports should be to break off.
