I have had the same issues. I walked away after to many issues. They did a terrible job designing the MMU. I write software, I can rebuild and engine and transmission but can't make this MMU work.

I did the upgrades and while it is somewhat better (even bought the capricorn tubes etc.).

What I can see is the less filament on the spool, the tougher it is for it to load because it curls so much. The filament needs to be straighter going in the backside and down the front tube to the gear as well.

I managed to get the filament to load after the upgrades and I'm printing now but it's almost as if you need to store the filament with 6-8" straight.

The question is how do we design an upgrade that is less sensitive to the curl or can handle it? Or I get my kid to design me/us a storage tube for to prevent curl?

Being red/green colorblind, these status colors drive me nuts when troubleshooting. Some times I just have to guess if it's red blinking/ green blinking or orange for good or so. I'm like uhhh, sure it's solid must be good to go! lol

I had the same problem as you at first (Filament went down to the extruder but never hit the gears, so it just retried on end... What seemed to solve it for me was:

- Make sure that the bondtech gears are as aligned as possible!

- When you load you first filament to nozzle, take off the ptfe tube at the extruder end, then insert the filament first and let it extrude till you can secure the PTFE screw again. (I think doing this just slightly aligns the filament path so it doesnt snag before the gears.)

And if something fails again, be logical, check sensors and if its not the sensors, chances are that its something very trivial. Especially if you just assembled the printer as well, as some things has a tendency to come loose the first hours of a fresh printer (Like belt pulleys, bondtech gears etc)

I know this may be resurrecting a post but I used to have this issue...well still do but that's because I haven't acted upon it yet. Instead of changing a bunch of components, I was looking at the filament. The filament end makes a huge difference. If the filament when retracting creates a glob at the end, then it makes the next loading difficult, maybe even binding in the PTFE tube. I would recommend looking at your temperature and the extruder pull to make sure you are getting more of a Hersheys kiss looking end (just before it starts to string). This stops you from having to re-cut the ends. After the transitions
