Filament loading sequence? Why does it run backwards?

When you load to nozzle.  It will push until it triggers the door switch, then start to load to the nozzle.. then reverse quickly for a few seconds .. then start loading to the nozzle again... what it that for? Trying to grind the tip smooth before loading? I think this causes more issues then it helps.

Also It doesnt extrude enough to the nozzle before it starts. It will go halfway through the wipe tower before anything starts coming out even on default purge settings. is there a way to adjust that? or is that g-code part of the firmware?

The filament sensor in the extruder has to be set perfectly.  If it does not register the load it will backup and try again.   Look at the menu where the sensor status is shown when doing a load.  See if Filament switches to 1 as it should or not.

It seems to register perfectly, so its not part of the g-code to load, reverse, load and start printing?

RE:

Unfortunately the filament sensor info in the menu shows n/a during loading which makes this a bit difficult to trouble shoot. As vhubbard stated, this kind of problem is normally due to poorly calibrated filament sensor, make sure it detects the filament reliably. A LED mod on the extruder sensor helps a lot...

Everything related to the wipe tower and ramming is gcode generated by the slicer, firmware is only responsible for getting the filament to the nozzle and back to the MMU2.

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.
