Filament load and extruder feeding issues

Hi,

I finished assembling, flashing, and calibrating the MMU2. I ran through the length calibration for all 5 filaments. When I wanted to start the first layer calibration is where the issues started.

First, the filament would load all the way to the extruder and would start to print but I could hear a periodic click from the extruder motor. I saw that the two extruder gears were not able to pull the filament into the extruder for heating/extruding. I noticed that the feed motor on the MMU2 was not moving (is that normal?). The clicking continued and the extruder was unsuccessful in printing anything but continued on with the print without error message.

Then, i tried to load filament 2 and got the same issue. Now here is where another issue started that I had when first calibrating. Now, the MMU2 would grab the filament and push it through to the FINDA probe but as soon as the filament touched the FINDA probe, it would stop and move the filament back without error message. I would select filament 2 on the menu, it would pull it, i could hear when the FINDA ball moved and then the MMU2 would return the filament to the original position. It's like it touched the sensor then denied the filament to keep feeding down to the extruder. So now the filament won't even get fed down to the extruder. This happens for all 5 filaments.

How can I resolve this? are the two issues related?

Thanks!

Re: Filament load and extruder feeding issues

Hi!

To me it sounds as if your nozzle is too close to the heatbed or even touching it, so the filament cannot flow out. I ran into the same issue several times before I realized the reason.

As you are already in the process of first layer calibration just turn the knob to the right in order to raise the nozzle.

As soon as there is enough space under the nozzle the clicking sound should disappear and the filament should start to flow.

Hi Hartmut,

That makes sense. I'll try that as soon as I resolve the issue of the filament not loading correctly. I still have that issue though.

If I use either the buttons on MMU or the LCD to choose filaments, the filament will feed until it touches the FINDA probe briefly then immediately retract the filament to the original position. I can't load any of the 5 filaments and don't get any errors displayed.

Can anyone help with this? I might re-calibrate the FINDA probe.

Thanks!

Re: Filament load and extruder feeding issues

Hi,

What resolves my other issue was simply factory resetting the MMU2 board and recalibration for each filament

The post above did resolve my extrusion issue too.

Thanks!
