Filament detection actually WORSE than MK3/MMU2

I upgraded my MK3/MMU2 to MK3S/MMU2S, what a disappointment.

The design is not as good as before, except for the slightly shorter filament path in the ptfe tube.

The detector "tower" gets in the way when I need to detach/attach the orange PTFE tube coming from MMU2

I can no longer check for the presence of the filament in the idler, because you can no longer see it.

I can no longer open the idler easily, I have to remove its axis (!!) to remove it. I had to remove the previous one a couple times when some stuck filament was ground to powder and some cleanup was needed. And anyway, after a while it gets a bit dusty in there.

But worst of all, since the whole upgrade is sold mostly to solve filament detection issues, after taking so much time to upgrade (because it's not easy, even though I did mount the whole printer myself when I got it), it's not handling my whiteish PETG filament AT ALL.

It is loaded, all the way in, then unloaded, then reloaded and again, and after 3 or four times it stops saying Failed to load.

But it didn't really fail to load, some PETG was drooling from the nozzle ! Anyway, I can no longer print with this almost new spool of PETG.
I'm worried about other spools I have with transparent PETG & ABS, I haven't tried yet

I had no issue with 2 different PLAs so I guess all is properly connected and I never had this problem before the upgrade.

So I'm very disappointed. This is not Prusa standards.

Even worse than I thought, even with the PLA is fails to load properly 3 times out of 4, sometimes succeeding after 2 attempts.

It's so flaky it will be near impossible to print using several colours...

Silly me, no need to worry about this, since it's no longer detecting the filament itself.
Now I can worry about all my spools, since it's also mostly failing with PLA.

I may have solved the issue by making the idler tip that goes in the IR detector 0.7mm longer

First I put some opaque tape on the original idler tip and the filament seemed to load easier. So I downloaded the upgrade STL file set from Prusa, and modified the idler to make the tip go a bit farther in the detector and printed it.

Filament loaded at first test. We'll see if it loads reliably after that...

There is a remix (somewhere) that uses a M2 (IIAC) screw to make an adjustable flag for this.  Before I assembled mine I printed that out just in case, but did not need it.
