Filament catching on Festo
Has anybody solved how to avoid filament catching on the festo after it goes through the selector? I've been wrestling with my MMU2S for two months and have a lot of the problems debugged, but I can't seem to find a consistent way of loading filament if there's a slight curve to it (which happens with PLA). It will occasionally catch as the filament enters the festo on the selector and stop the whole print. Any suggestions?
RE: Filament catching on Festo
I changed out both of them to use PC4-M6 passthrough variants that let the PTFE go all the way through.

@vintagepc
I used the most recent version of your redesigned selector on thingiverse, but I didn't see a version that had a pc4-m6 passthrough. Any chance you would be willing to share any selectors for the festo attachment and the tower?
RE: Filament catching on Festo
I found this filament sensor cover that has a pc4-m10 passthrough. Printing and will test. I'm still working on a passthrough at the IR sensor cover though. It's kind of a tight space for a pc4-m10...

Edit - added the link to the print.

I use this very same one. You can see a list of my other mods here: https://www.thingiverse.com/nimaim/collections/mmu2s-must-have-mods . Along with what vintagepc advised, I changed basically everything to PC4-M6/M10 passthroughs: from the buffer to the rear PTFE holder and the festos, one which is on the MMU2S output as well as the one on the extruder. I would also change all tubing (ESPECIALLY the one going from the MMU2S to the extruder to 2.5 mm ID, if you're able to find any at the present time. The default one is 2mm ID, the extra room makes a huge difference especially when you have stringing and fat tips with filament loading/unloading.

Haha - Ironically, I've switched everything to 4mm OD x 3MM ID ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07B8G7RWL/ ) and am having a problem with the filament slipping out of the tube when it rewinds from my autorewind spools. I'm having very mixed luck with the rewind spools though, so I'm going to test a different solution using one of these two adapters:
- https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3703977 (PC4-M10 PTFE tube adapter for universal spool “rewinder")
- https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4155372 (PC4-M6 PTFE tube adapter for universal spool “rewinder”)
I'm planning on using a small piece of 4mm OD x 2mmID filament to provide a bit of extra friction and hopefully make a buffer that comes out the back of the tube. So far (for the last several hours, at least) the PC4-M10 pass throughs (below) in combination with the larger diameter PTFE tube seem to have really reduced any catch points in the tubing.
- Filament sensor cover: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3541897
- Selector cover: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3654786
- PTFE tube holder (in the back): https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3233579
I might be onto something pretty reliable if the PTFE pass-through adapters work for simulating a buffer. Whew!
RE: Filament catching on Festo
@bob.s7 I am making exactly the same changes to my new MMU2S after a lot of research. I came to the same conclusion as you have by select the 3 upgrades listed at the end of your previous post. I am also trying the 4x3mm PTFE tube.
Can you please update your results after trying this for a while?
