Extruder not grabbing filament with MMU cycle, ejecting and loading perfectly.

Hello!

I finally got most things working on my MMU unit. I ran a test print and have filament loading and ejecting from the extruder just fine. However, when the filament is sent to the extruder, the filament sensor triggers a hair early it seems before my extruder gear can grab it so the filament sensor is registering that the filament is there but the extruder never grabs it.

Is there a setting in the slicer software where I can have the MMU unit send the filament for a few more millimeters so the extruder can grab it?

I should mention I do not have the stock chimney installed. I have a bear extruder with a mosquito hot end. I could not find a chimney to attach to the main extruder body so I have my filament sensor in its original position.

Can I adjust filament parking positions and such to send it a few more millimeters down? Or do I absolutely need to add in the chimney section?

RE:

TBH I don't know.
the standard Mk3 and Mk4 setup is such that the MMU feeds the filament towards the extruder, the extruder is set to run before the filament arrives, as the filament arrives, the extruder drive gear grabs the filament which causes the filament sensor to operate causing the MMU drive wheel  idler to disengage and the extruder controls the filament to complete loading.
the situation is similar on the Mk3.9 and Mk4 printers.
I think the bear setup, has a   filament sensor before the idler gears, if this is the case, I would expect the MMU to disengage before the extruder grabs the filament...

this is totally a guess adjusting the  'extra loading distance', may help you

best wishes, Joan

I think that is exactly whats happening. I tried two extremes for that parameter to see what it was controlling and couldnt see much. I am wondering if the filament sensor supersedes that command and just cuts it right when its triggered?

I will continue to poke around tomorrow with some of the parameters! We are miles closer to a fully functional MMU so theres a light at the end of the tunnel at least!
