After filament unloading failure MMU2S skips the fail filament for the remainder of the print

Printing my first multi-material print with the MMU2S and slot 5 ran out of filament (spool fell from the tray and broke the filament).  I let the remainder of the broken filament run through as I thought I would just have to reload from the unbroken line on the spool.  However, after I manually loaded filament once it reached the end of the broken portion, the MMU2S would no longer draw filament from slot 5.  It instead used slot 1 filament for all slot 5 filament requirements.

On one hand I was pleased that the print was able to recover from what it saw as a malfunction but obviously the colors are not what I wanted.  Any ideas on what I might have done wrong?  Should I have removed the broken portion and just reloaded from the spool?  Why wasn't I given any way to intervene and fix the issue?
