RE: Y-Axis improvements (collecting thread)

A Youtube channel called Robothut does mods to the Prusa that look really interesting. Here's his linear rail mod: ,

He also has another one using 'Ultimaker-like' brass-graphite bushings that reduce noise ( ). I ordered some, but it'll take a while to get here from China. My current MK3S works fine, but it's loud during fast infills so I had to turn it to stealth mode so I could sleep.

I have various JST type connectors with 2,3 and 6 ways for the Stepper, pinda, fans etc.  I also bought a few XC60 connectors to use for the heater.  I've read that the xc60 can be hard to undo once connected so if I find its troublesome I'll replace it with a tamiya connector used on RC model battery packs.  I have a few of those laying around and they should take the current requirements of the heater.

I'm planning on having them behind the x axis, i'll wrap from the control board to the connectors and then again from the extruder  back.  That way I only have to worry about the extruder to connector area when making changes.  We'll see how it goes when I do it 🙂

@neophyl

thank you,

XC 30 would be more than adequate on the heater,   Tamiya connectors are huge!!!
on the mk3, the 40watt heater draws less than 2 amps
on the mk2 printer the 40 watt heater draws less than 4 amps

I try to make safe suggestions,You should understand the context and ensure you are happy that they are safe before attempting to apply my suggestions, what you do, is YOUR responsibility. Location Halifax UK

Yeah I know but I like to over spec when it comes to electronics lol.  On the tamiya I have both the normal size and the mini type.  Comes from having a misspent youth playing airsoft and having lots of various battery packs around.  I also design and build embedded electronics so my parts collection often has stuff I can use in it.

I really shouldn't have watched those youtube vids, as now I want linear rails too lol.  I think I'll rebuild with the printed ones Chocki posted and look into getting some linear later.

Hi,

I made a polymer bushing and a bushing clamp for the Y-axis a while ago.
