Why you shouldn't use gcode from Prusaprinters

You shouldn't use gcode for your printer you downloaded anywhere - there's so much that gcode can do without you noticing. Now that Prusa's Prusaprinters.org lets you share gcode files, I try and see how far I can go with the gcode Prusaprinters.org lets you share with the world.

Someone is probably in need of communication and does not dare to leave his house 🧐

Totally don’t get Presa's idea behind passing GCODE around. My designs on their site are STLs only. Anybody who has a printer knows what to do with those.

Gcode viewer - attack surface?

There are two positive aspects of the gcode files.  There are downsides previously pointed out.  1.  Gcode file is what drives the display of time required, filament to be used projection on the file information display elements.  2.  Gcode viewer lets you see what this thing is gonna look like on your print bed.

I'm totally aligned with needing to trust the source, trust the chain of custody, and then being the one holding yourself responsible for the decision to actually instruct the printer to execute a gcode file that you willingly transferred to the printer.  The operator is accountable for choosing every single print.

RE: Why you shouldn't use gcode from Prusaprinters

The .gcode files included with the printer, from Prusa, such as the tree frog, were fine, and serve as a baseline sanity check that the printer will print as expected when given a properly-sliced model.

However, I've found that I get better results from downloaded prints by slicing the .stl files myself instead of using somebody else's .gcode files.

I don't like it when someone uploads a print and gives ONLY the .gcode and not the .stl (or source) files, particularly if the machine they were sliced for is close to, but not exactly like the one I have.  I've shuddered and kept my finger near the X reset button when I've overridden the mismatch warning message.
