Re: Which toothed replacements for idlers?

So after a week of printing i will say that i am happy switching to the toothed idlers. I noticed a reduction in moire and more consistent layers. I did add a bit of machine oil to the sides of my belts which did reduce the belts trying to creep up the edges of the idler and i no longer see any belt shreds below my printer like i did with the smooth and toothed idler before. I am content for now with the quality of my prints and will start to dive into printing mi miniatures. I have a few requests from friends for some tiny prints so now that i have my printer rock solid i am confident to dive into something more challenging.

Awesome! Yea its a huge upgrade in my opinion! Happy printing!

Any chance you could post the remix of that y axis tensioner? Seems like you did a lot of good work on it!

Can I ask if there is any difference is doing 20T v 16T?

I ordered some GT2 16T 3mm Bore Idler pulley of eBay and am wondering about fitting them. I presume I do not need to do anything on the motor end? Just the idler side?

Older thread but I can't seem to find much info.  I'm in the same boat.  Do you go with a 20T or a 16T?  My one co-worker recommended a toothed version of Y axis idler and said it would be better.  For how easy it is to switch the idler I would like to do this but not sure what to get.

RE: Which toothed replacements for idlers?

if you change 20 tooth idler for the original 20tooth size original idler, you simply remove the idler bearing mounting screw, remove the old idler, insert the new idler, and replace screw... there is a nylock nut on the other side, you only need to nip the screw up to the housing, you MUST NOT over tighten... the nylock nut prevents the idler mounting screw from unscrewing.
