Ultrabase
Greetings all. I am getting close to purchasing a MK3. Before I do, I just have one question. Would the anycubic ultrabase work for this machine? I have 2 other printers and I use this surface on both. In my opinion it is the perfect surface. I am just wondering if with all of the MK3s sensors and what not, could I use this glass plate instead of the flex plate? Also I live in Alaska, so it is much cheaper for me to get replacements of these from Amazon vs the flex sheets from prusa. Thank you for any info.

You might look at the BuildTak flex steel sheets. With one side PEI and the other BuildTak, they come to something like $60 apiece. Not cheap, but likely easier to get than from Prusa direct.

Everything is possible, but you may have to do some tinkering... Although I'm not sure you would be able to use the mesh bed leveling, which would be quite a shame.
But once you tried the Prusa steel sheets with coated PEI, you will never want anything else.

Go with the Buildtek Flexplate (Get the one for the MK3) Put the Buildtek PEI sheet on one side, and Buildtek on the other. The PEI is just for protecting the bed, I rarely use it. Buildtek is fantastic I also use the Ultrabase on my Anycubic, and it does work well, but its glass, and I guess you could mount it on a Flexplate but you wouldn't be able to flex it, so a bit of a waste.
Maybe someday Prusa will have the rough PEI sheets and I'l willing to try it, but I've had my years of frustration with smooth PEI, and every time I use it I swear I NEVER will use it again.

I bought a buildtak. It is a very unique surface. I like The spring steel sheets and the ability to put two surfaces on a plate.

I'm not familiar with exactly what Ultrabase is, but Prusa does sell a tempered glass printbed as an accessory for a little over 5 bucks. I don't know why they'd sell one if it weren't usable somehow.

Basically, the Anycubic Ultrabase a very sophisticated glass bed that provides better adhesion to prints, but at the same time, releases them very easily.
It was originally released as part of the Anycubic i3 Mega. However, now it is also available as a separate component, meaning you can install it on many third-party 3D printers.

I have an Anycubic i3 Mega with Ultrabase and a Prusa MK3S with smooth PEI steel sheet.
Prusa is a very good printer and I like it immediately.
But for large PLA printings Ultrabase has a much better adhesion then the smooth PEI bed.
Question to Prusa: Do you plan to develop a new steel sheet with simular coating?

Charles, did this arrive and have you been able to test it? I'd expect to have a lot of issues with ghosting due to the extra weight. Any results?
