Source for double bearing idlers

I'd like to upgrade my Y idler (and maybe the X, later) to a toothed, double-bearing idler (in conjunction with a tensioner). Probably 20 teeth, to reduce stress on the belt.

Anyone have a specific source? The ones on Amazon don't have great reviews.

Thanks.

Thanks, Joan, but I should have specified - I am looking for a US source. The seller in that link doesn't ship to the US 🙁

Amazon has these. I can't vouch for how well they work.

Hi,
Do you feel this is a necessary/beneficial upgrade for the MK3?

Thanks

Re: Source for double bearing idlers

Hi Berthold
I think that the smooth rollers pressing onthe teeth of the belt. Distort the teeth leading to loose belts and possible vibration

And the twin bearings offer more even support for the belt

One of my y belt idler bearings collapsed and lead to a number of worsening prints as the issue developed. Thenit finally collapsed and took the printer out of service

I now usually have at least one spare in my drawers

I currently have two spares for upgrading my X Idlers and one spare. Unallocated
However i need to build my other printer and that needs two idkers so i probably need to buy more in the near future

Re: Source for double bearing idlers

Hi Joan,

What size idler would be the correct one. I saw your ebay link and they give several options.
I guess it would be 20T and ID 3mm. Correct?

There are some on Amazon

RE: Source for double bearing idlers

Little bit of an older thread but wanted to comment since I just built my MK3S.  I have NO issues thus far.  But after researching it does make more sense to have a toothed idler since the motor bearing is toothed.

One question I can't seem to get a for sure answer on is would there be any different from getting a 16t idler or a 20t?  Wouldn't one want to get a 16t since the Y motor uses a 16t gear?  How would the belt even fit on a 20t?  I ask this only because it seems like 20t idlers are abundant but I can't see to find a good source for 16t?

This seems super easy to change so I'd rather do that than mess with the X axis at the moment until something wrong.

Thanks much,

-Nigel

RE: Source for double bearing idlers

Hi Nigel,

the mk3s designed to use a 20 tooth idler, smooth or toothed,

using a smaller idler will cause reduced clearance behind the X axis carriage between the belt clamp and the belt, also the belt tension will change a little as the X carriage approaches the right hand side
