Recommended Mods and Upgrades?

I preordered the mk3 shortly after it was announced and got one of the first batches.

Now that it's been nearly a year, what mods and upgrades are highly recommended? What officially updated parts are worth replacing?

Definitely the R3 extruder and fan (if you haven't done that yet).

I never upgraded for R2 parts, I eard that those parts are only for easier assembly. Is there any other improvments ?

I will upgrade for R3 when my MMU 2.0 arrives

It's the R3 upgrade, just concerning printed parts but improve cooling.

Yes, the spacing between the smooth rod and leadscrew were updated on the Z axis to relieve strain on the axis and improve performance. There are changes to the X carriage for the belt so it makes it easier to get the belt tightened to spec and also make adjustments; tighten and loosen the belt.

The R2 parts also included a new heat bed cover for use with the Textile sleeve instead of the spiral wrap and nylon filament.
It was recommended to do this upgrade to help prevent wear / damage to the heat be cables.

Hello!

Does anybody know, if the R3 fan parts work with R1 oder R2 extruder parts? I just wanted to install the new fan parts but don't want to disassemble the whole extruder at this time.

I recommend octoprint to have the ability to perfectly level your bed, when you switch out the shims for springs.

octoprint has nothing to do with it, unless you're talking about the visualizer which is just a convenience.

some folks with springs are saying they have softened/flattened over several months time

The visualizer is exactly what I'm interring too. How else are you going to get it perfectly flat?

I've heard some have lasted months without issue. If something does settle, you're free too adjust it. Might mean your springs don't have enough force, or user error. I'm waiting for mine to come in.

plenty of different visualizer tools exist, or you could just look at g81. doesn't require octoprint, is all i was saying.

provided pinda is setup and calibrated correctly you can skip both, thats what its there for.

Re: Recommended Mods and Upgrades?

After experiencing first layer problems with regards to full build plate prints (and a 0.700mm delta front right to aft left corner according to G81 output) I switched to 7x7 bed levelling (49 instead of 9 probes) with F0x06’s firmware variant ( https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware/issues/1239 ) ... plus the adjustable „M3 screw nylock nut“ MOD ( https://github.com/PrusaOwners/prusaowners/wiki/Bed_Leveling_without_Wave_Springs ) for optimum adaptation of the heat bed. Just used Pronterface G80/G81 output and MS Excel to compute and visualize - worked good enough, now I am at 0.06mm deltas when the bed is at temp.
Prints fine now and I would do it again ...
Just my two cents.
Cheers,
Mark

Re: Recommended Mods and Upgrades?

I second Markster ^
Did the same on mine, except I've used springs instead of the ny-ock method, couldn't print a successful first layer before except in a small area in the middle, as soon as I tried to print anything palm sized or bigger, it was a disaster.

Normal people believe that if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Engineers believe that if it ain’t broke, it doesn’t have enough features yet.

Just got my springs in today, was not aware of the 7x7 bed leveling, I'll look into this after the springs are installed
