MMU2S enclosure for regular i3 MK3S

Good morning!

Sorry if this question sounds weird. 😉

I'm planning to buy my first 3D printer soon and after spending quite a lot of work at home time on youtube etc. I decided not to go the cheap Chinese way but to support our sympathetic Czech neighbours. 😊

And yes, I'm already planning to build the IKEA Lack enclosure. What I ask myself: The MMU2S looks quite cool to me, but a) I don't want to spend the additional 300 Euros at the moment and b) I want to get familiar with the basic functions of the MK3S first before adding another layer of difficulty on top. BUT I'm quite sure that I want to get the the MMU2S at some point. So I'm thinking about building the MMU2S enclosure right away and using it WITHOUT the MMU2S.

My question here: what about the filament holders (position, guiding the filament from spool to printer...)? What would I have to adapt to do it that way?

Does this make sense at all? 🤔

Best wishes,

Eike

My advice is not to build a crappy Lack enclosure for a high tech printer but to use a solid 19 Inch Server Rack, costs are about 150 Euros and there are lots of examples. Chosing the right height will provide ample room for an MMU2.

I try to give answers to the best of my ability, but I am not a 3D printing pro by any means, and anything you do you do at your own risk. BTW: I have no food for…

@just3d

Of course! Thanks for the actually quite obvious advice. I'm an IT pro and might even be able to source a used one at work....
