Good news, the Nozzle I've got is Tungsten Carbide!  Response as follows

Tungsten carb. U can see the thermal is much better. We only have stock mk10/0.6 now. Next upcoming batch will be E3D

I just upgraded my MK3 to MK3S, and am wondering what changes need to be made to integrate in the Mosquito package.  I'm assuming the printed parts kit for the MK3-to-MK3S will need to be modified?  If so, are the new printed parts available anywhere?

Crossing my fingers on materials that don't require a fan.  I'm confident the Vanadium nozzle will perform exceptionally well.  But I'm with you on running out of resistive headroom (E3D thermistor with +5C bias applied).  After this PETG issue is sorted out I'll order the Slice Engineering thermistor. 

Did a print with nylon carbon fiber (no fan) at the top end of the recommended print temperature and the result was excellent layer adhesion (Wow strong) and very good print quality.  After first building the printer (Virgin printer with Mosquito hotend) prints with (fan@150) HTPLA carbon fiber resulted in excellent layer adhesion and excellent print quality (Wow print quality)  It was only when printing with colored PETG things started getting squirrely.  All of my PLA prints (fan@200) resulted in excellent layer adhesion and exceptionally good print quality.  Most materials were printed at the highest recommended temperature.  Also the translucent PETG I have prints exceptionally well with the Vanadium Nozzle and fan at 150.  I'm currently looking into the effects of temperature on PETG pigment chemistry.  The layer cooling fan @255 resulted in poor layer adhesion and prints with all materials.  Now we know why.  But concerning print quality, I hold to the statement that the .4 Vanadium nozzle out performs any other .4 nozzel I've tried.  During this entire test period of temperature purgatory the extruder stepper motor never skipped a beat. This PETG issue was a real 🔧 in my forks.  But it was and continues to be an excellent learning experience and definitely needed sorted out.  Being a new comer a hardy thanks to all.  And will without a doubt be building out a BNBSX.

Hi frank-p8,

If you want to stay close to the R4 Prusa extruder body I would use Slice Engineering's recommendation: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3515782

The Mosquito fixture block will require a bit of sanding for proper fitment.  Also as with Prusa's R4 extruder body take your time with PTFE tube fitment and Bondtech gear alignment.  The filament path needs to be as perfect as possible.  After printing (with the currently installed V6) the Slice Engineering Adaptor follow the Prusa instructions.  Only the Mosquito fitment will be different as compared to the stock V6.  You will also want to use Prusa's stock cooling fans.  If at the moment you are not going to print abrasive materials, you may want to adjust your PINDA probe and Z height using an installed brass nozzel.  If you want to install the Vanadium nozzel, when printing PLA and PETG it is best to use the high-end of the print materials recommended temperature. (Read through the Forum) Also use between 40 and 70 percent fan speed.  It has been found that the Vanadium nozzle is being adversely cooled by the part cooling fan.

I got all my stuff Slice stuff and can now build various combinations.  So far, I've build the std Mosquito with the Slice mounting prints from Thiniverse with the stock Thermister and Heater from Prusa.  Added the TC nozzle and tried a PETG print using the stock Prusa Profile.  The result was poor layer adhesion, weak infill and rough overhangs.  Now trying a print using my PETG profile that was excellent with the Nozzle-X

(250c).

Sounds like you’re considering the pre-assembled printer? I strongly encourage you to the buy the kit. A 3D printer is a tool, you need to know it inside and out.

Looks like the Tungsten Carbide nozzel may have improved the scenario.  Nice..  Would you be willing to try guy-k2's frog gcode?  Fan speed used?

I've got a 6hr eSteel (PLA) print going now (to see how it goes with an aggressive filament).  It is looking great so far using the stock Prusa PLA profile.   I'll be able to try guy-k2's frog gcode after that.  The fan speed on my Frog was as follows:

- Fan speed: Min 30% - Max 50%

- Bridges fan speed: 50%

Disable fan for the first: 3 layers

 

These settings are unchanged from what I was using with the Nozzle-X.  The other changes that differ from the Prusa PETG config are:

- Extrusion Multiplier: 0.96

- Extruder Temp: 250c for first layer and other layers

- Bed Temp: 90c for first layer and other layers

Yes, I too would be very interested in how your Tungsten Carbide nozzle does with my PETG Treefrog gcode. It if is able to produce full glassy PETG fusion (or even nearly full fusion), it would be a huge positive for using the TC nozzle. My Diez TC nozzle has not even shipped yet.

PETG is a tough nut because it needs hotter than PLA to melt fully AND some parts cooling fan to have good geometry. Its melt point is above what the Slice vanadium steel nozzle can easily achieve. Add needed parts cooling and nozzle chills too cold to extrude PETG hot enough. Only solution with the vanadium steel is boosting hot end temp by 20C. I've actually needed 290C for PETG with the slice vanadium nozzle on large bulky items like x-ends. The new fan shroud helps, but a better conducting nozzle would be very welcome.

PLA melts at lower temp. So it is easy to hit the needed temp.

Polycarb can largely print without a parts cooling fan. So it ironically may be easier to print that PETG with the vanadium nozzle.

I've only a couple of hours to go on the current print and will print using your G-Code Tree Frog and report back. 

For what it is worth PETG is my main functional filament and I've had great results with the Nozzle-X.  I use eSun (lots of different colours) but also have a single role of Prusament Orange for MK3 parts.  I also keep all my open filaments in a industrial 0% RH Dry Cabinet and print from a 5 spool heated enclosure running at 65c  for PETG.  "Fresh" filament really makes a big difference in high RH% environments.

I also have printed a bunch of more exotic filaments just fine as well, and this week got my first roll of PEEK (wow it is expensive).  This one is going to be on the shelf for a bit till I upgrade the Thermister, Heater, Build the Firmware etc..... but I'm away from home for a week shortly so I'll stick to getting the Mosquito sorted for now.

Finished my eSun eSteel PLA print.  Looks great to the naked eye (can't really see the layer lines at all).  Printed at 0.2 and I'm going to toss it into a tumbler to see how it "polishes" up.

Frog now printing.

So Guy's Frog is the best of the 3 I have printed so far.  Almost 0 Stringing, no blobs, perfect Belly, nice and shiny & strong.  There were a couple of issue:

- 1st Layer Perimeters did not fuse (you must have different 1st layer settings)

- There are a couple of layers under the chin that look Matt (may need a small temp boost on my setup)

Can you post your PETG Profile so I can take a look and see what is different and perhaps create a combo one?  I've gone back to look at my profile and found I'd based one of them on the Prusa PLA instead of PETG... woops!

That looks a LOT better than what I am getting with the Slice vanadium nozzle. I really want that tungsten carbide nozzle now. The one piece version you have is even more appealing than the insert version I have on order. If the Singaporeans get them back in stock, I know what I'm ordering next.

Again, I would very much love to see high resolution image of those frogs. There is a selector in the forum's media upload dialog that lets you specfiy none vs "media link"  Please set for media link so we can view the full resolution of your uploaded image

Thanks for the profile - I'll check it out.

...and yes - the one piece design is much better.  I emailed E3D to see if they were working on a TC nozzle and the answer is NO.  The only issue with the TC Nozzle I have is the profile is different (slightly longer) than E3D nozzles so you have to redo the Z-Height.

Thanks for the full res pict. Yes. Your TC nozzle is working wonders. I can get the vanadium steel nozzle to work, but really hate cooking the filament that much just to get things hot enough at the tip.

My fixings for Magnum version have arrived. I'll see if that helps the vanadium steel nozzle, but I'm suspecting it won't be as much difference as a tungsten carbide nozzle.

The height issue - well at least we shouldn't need to change nozzle as often with the TC. My main concerns with it is a clog. I guess a needle won't hurt TC much if that happens.

E3D - why sell a rarely replaced TC nozzle, when you can make money selling multiples of other nozzles?

Interestingly, you can find TC nozzles on alibaba, but not aliexpress. There is also this Canadian seller that I found
