MK3 with 0.25mm nozzle

Hi everyone, I'd like to have some feedback on printing small features with precision with the MK3. I mostly print small enclosures, flanges, supports and simple gears, currently using a heavily modified tarantula (that is, I don't have an MK3 -- yet).

I wonder how far can I push the MK3 with a 0.25mm nozzle, since I don't see any gear reduction mechanism. Does microstepping yield enough improvement to extrude with a 0.25mm nozzle accurately?

What's the lowest reasonable layer height that can be printed with PLA and PETG without re-melting fine details in the top surface?

Using my current setup, going lower than 0.4mm with a 0.15mm layer height doesn't yield appreciable difference in quality, but I'd love to get finer details.
