Magnet Filament Monitor

I like the design of the current filament sensor, it's very clever. The MKS3+ is my first Prusa, it was fun to assemble and see how it functions.
The only thing is that I think there is some missed potential. I think by using another type of sensor the filament movement can be monitored for jams as well as run out. It can also detect things like under extrusion and over extrusion.
I'm aware the MK3 shipped with a laser sensor that got revised on the MK3S because the laser was unreliable with certain filaments and dust. I believe Prusa's word on the matter was if you use decent filament you shouldn't get jams, but i've already gotten two in my 2 weeks of ownership (using eSUN PLA). I also feel the Prusa printers set them selves apart because they are way smarter than the competition and filament sensor detecting movement really seems like it should be an included feature.
However, Duet3D has a magnetic filament sensor that is reliable and can detect run out and jams.
Working principal is that the filament is pull through the device and turns a hob gear which turns a magnet that a sensor reads the angle of. The firmware knows the angle of the magnet in relation to the current operation of the printer.\
Wondering what everyone else thinks about this idea? Might be an interesting mod? Duet3D already sells all the parts, so in theory someone could modify the extruder design to accommodate the PCB and hob gear.

Neat sensor. I would like to see some improvement on the next upgrade. Maybe something like this might be a good change. The one we have is not bad, but there is room for improvement.

Yea the current filament sensor is a great design, the mechanism will probably outlast the life of the printer. Just feel like there a missed opportunity to detect jams/under-extrusion/over-extrusion.
