MagiGoo as alternative to glue stick
One of the great things about using a Prusa is being able to ignore most of the trials and tribulations other folks go through with bed adhesion and Live-Z adjustments. I had my Mk3 for a couple of months and had no issues with adhesion printing PLA and PETG on the PEI flex sheet... until I made the mistake of trying to print 3DXTech PETG. The filament is excellent, but it prints at much higher temps than normal PETG (270C on an 80C bed). Much to my dismay, I tore up one side of my PEI sheet trying to remove the prints. I've relegated that poor, patched sheet to experiments. I've since made a point of using gluestick whenever printing new materials that require hot temps. I really hate the mess and inconsistency though, so thought I'd give one of the products recommended for other printers a try, and picked up some MagiGoo. I'm very impressed. I smeared a sample on my test sheet and gave it a try with the same 3DXTech PETG that stuck so permanently the last time I tried it. The results were impressive.
Here's one of the same parts that ripped the PEI sheet up last time:
You can see the poor torn PEI and horrid patch job I've subjected it to. The part printed very nicely and popped off easily once cool, exactly as advertised. I gave it a tougher adhesion test, also with good results:
That print held firmly throughout, but removed with very little effort once cooled. It also works well with PLA:
I'm not an advocate of gooping up the PEI sheets, but for those times you do need something more, MagiGoo seems to work quite well. I'm going to try using the same sheet with no clean-up to see how long it lasts, but so far, it's been very pleasant to use. No odd smells, no sticky mess and it cleans up with water.

Re: MagiGoo as alternative to glue stick
My current problems are with NinjaFlex and even with skin oil from my nose it was reluctant to to detach from the PEI sheet no damage but I had to print over the residue with petg to get the last of it off...
I have a tiny sample of MagiGoo from a recent MakerBox as an extra but I have yet to try it thanks for the report

In case of NinjaFlex I use either IPA to detach it from the PEI sheet or what I prefer now is to use blue tape.
Regarding MagiGoo it's pretty expensive. The kores glue stick works great for me in case I need it for PC/Nylon.

It may seem to be pretty expensive, but it's 2/3 the cost of a replacement pei sheet.
I, like bobstro, have a chunk of pei missing from one side of a sheet. XT-CF20 was my culprit. I used the other side exclusively anything not pla. It has a layer of Magigoo on it at all times. Adhesion is wonderful. Release of anything from normal PETG to Nina flex to polycarbonate is a breeze. It's been about 8 months since I got the bottle, and I've only used about a quarter of it so far. Mostly because I was re-applying before most prints at the beginning.
My biggest complaint has been that over application causes ripples in the bottom layer. I've stopped applying as often. I've cleaned the sheet completely, applied a thin layer and immediately wiped it with a paper towel. It's much smoother now.

Are you saying two other alternatives I've mentioned, which are less expensive, doesn't work?

Re: MagiGoo as alternative to glue stick
Not at all.
I used windex before I damaged my sheet. I still have a hole in my pei.
The $20 USD I spent months ago would have preserved a $30 sheet ( which is still mostly useful) had I spent the money beforehand.
I'm only mentioning an option which hasn't failed for me. You, or others, can take it as face value, or ignore it and use another option. It doesn't bother me either way.
I only brought up that a $20 investment would have saved $30. And really, $20 in the long term of having a 3D printer isn't much.

[...] Are you saying two other alternatives I've mentioned, which are less expensive, doesn't work?
Other methods certainly work. I mentioned MagiGoo as an effective alternative that has some benefits. I've worked with glue sticks, and while it's effective enough for the over-adhesion with some materials, it's definitely too messy for my daily use. I found it necessary to make regular trips to the sink to clean off accumulation of glue regularly. Wiping with a wet towel was often insufficient. Tape was a pain to apply and repair. Having to prep the bed separately for PLA versus PETG is inconvenient.
MagiGoo, on the other hand, goes down quite thin and can be tidied up with a moist towel. It also goes down very evenly, which helps with finish. I found the adhesion very consistent regardless of the material I was printing, even if swapping materials on the same bed. For those who aren't getting satisfactory results with glue or tape, it's a definite alternative. As a bonus, some filament suppliers are shipping samples with orders if you ask for them, so I recommend folks give it a try to decide for themselves.

Then we are talking about different things. This topic sounds to me like MagiGoo vs Kores vs Elmer's glue stick. Of course using any glue stick will save your PEI sheet.

I wasn't thinking "versus" so much as another alternative. Windex, tape, glue stick and (for me at least) MagiGoo are all tools available for adhesion problems.

The topic description "MagiGoo as alternative to glue stick" is kind of misleading then to me 🙂 . But it's fine.

Well, I'd only use one at a time...
