Enclosure temperature for Large flat print?

@Dan Rogers, Thanks for the information about lower printing temperatures. I am trying to print a 7x4 inch flat panel to mount switches on that is about 0.25 inch thick. Will the lower temperatures 35 to 39 degrees C keep the flat panel from warping from thermal expansion/shrinkage?  Anybody else fell free to respond.

RE: Enclosure temperature for Large flat print?

I am printing ABS and ASA at a housing temperature of approx. 40 degrees C., which works quite well. Only on large contact surfaces slight warping is noticeable at the corners, but this can be greatly reduced with suitable preventive methods.

Brim, Bunny ears and close the door.

I would think you can manage that print with just a brim, but maybe a brim and bunny ears if you are having trouble.  If you print in the holes for the switch, that should be enough to disrupt the long strand runs that are the source of the warping problems.  Quarter inch thick - are you planning on it being something that toddlers hit with bats and hammers?  That's pretty thick.  But break up the long runs and you can print anything without a lot of warping issues without having to super heat your enclosure to oven temps.

The extruder fan only works at 40 or 45 degrees, higher it will cool not as good.

RE: Thank you guys for all the support

Karl thanks for the screenshots of the large flat print with a brim showing ABS/ASA printing could be done at lower temperatures.

Dan thanks for the information about making large prints with holes to help with thermal expansion and to confirm the brim and adding bunny ears option. Also breaking up the print.

Peter thanks I was wondering about the max temp before I would have problems cooling the print head extruder.

So I am going to print with 45 degree C for ABS and ASA. Now thanks to you guys I have more information when trying to print at 90 degrees C.

This forum is very helpful.

@Karl,

Where did you find that spool holder?

RE: Spool holder

Hello Chuck,

I design almost all parts myself and very rarely use templates from Thingiverse or similar. This part is a simple spool holder for the Mini, which I often use to print ASA (without housing).

Karl's designs

As usual, you have outdone yourself with that design.  Thanks.

RE: Karl's designs

Thanks - hope you have place for the spool holder. You can put heavy spools on it without a second thought, as it is a very durable design 👍
