Lazy Mans PEI replacement....
Now, I know I am going to get castigated and gasped at, but I am currently pondering the following, and wondering whether anyone has actually tried this.....
I bought a new steel sheet the other week (Mk3S build plate), and made the mistake of rather clumsily lifting a PETG print off of it. The PEI sheet has torn in a small section, about 1cm x 2cm, but it flattens down if I heat the plate up and smooth it down. However, this is only going to last for so long.
I have recently removed the PEI sheet from my last steel sheet, and it was a long and messy process. Now, given that the PEI sheet on this new bed is still in good order, apart from that one small section, I am toying with the idea of placing a new PEI sheet directly on top. This saves having to remove the old sheet, shouldn't impact too heavily on the thermal properties, and should in theory only require a small adjustment to my live Z adjustment.
Has anyone else tried this?
RE: Lazy Mans PEI replacement....
Lazy man's way is just don't print on the damaged part.
Color me highly skeptical of applying a second sheet of PEI. But I have been known to be wrong. Let us know how it goes.
RE: Lazy Mans PEI replacement....
Lol, trouble is I print some pretty large parts, using the whole bed area, so I can't avoid it so easily...
RE: Lazy Mans PEI replacement....
I patched mine with a bit of blue tape to fill in an actual missing bit of PEI, but that little bit of distortion on the bottom layer was frustrating. If the loose flap covers the hole completely, I suppose it might work. Alternately, just designate that damaged side as your experimental surface and buy a new bare sheet to apply your PEI sticker to. It costs a bit more, but you gain a 2nd sheet. I did this to experiment with other surfaces on the flip side (BuildTak, blue tape, textured vinyl).
