Inline exhaust fan

Hi, I'm looking to exhaust fumes to the outdoors through a hose. I'm trying to figure out the best fan to use. I'm thinking maybe a standard duct fan like this one:
https://www.amazon.ca/Booster-Exhaust-Circulation-Ducting-Bathroom/dp/B07FX41Y4G/ref=sr_1_fkmr3_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1542043783&sr=8-2-fkmr3&keywords=2%22+inline+circulation+fan

Has anyone done anything like this before? Is there some other type of fan that would work better?

I'll make a 3d printed part to taper the hose down to a smaller size. And then I'll need to install some kind of inline shutoff so I don't let the cold air in when printing (really cold here in the winter). I just open the shutoff after the print is done and exhaust the fumes. Any suggestions on where to get an inline shutoff for maybe 1 to 2" diameter hose?

I'd appreciate any input on this at all. Thanks!

Sam

Re: Inline exhaust fan

I haven't done any forced ducting for my printer, but have done some in real life. You need a fan built for ductwork. Moving air through ducts requires fans that deliver more static pressure rather than just high volume. The Amazon link is a good candidate.

Forget about anything smaller than 3" inside diameter; it takes a lot of power to move air down small hose. 4" is a good compromise.

You may want to add a flapper at the exhaust side to keep air from moving back into the house once the fan turns off.

I like the flapper idea. Though I bet a fair bit of cold are still gets back in. I'm hoping for a manual shutoff with a good seal. Anyone know of anything like this for maybe a drier vent hose?

I do wish I could do it with a small hose, though I get your point.

Still interested to here any ideas anyone out there might have.

Thanks!

Re: Inline exhaust fan

That flapper is for a dryer vent or bath exhaust fan.
