RE: Heater Block Silicon Sock?

Is there a version of this for the MK3S+ or does the MK3S+ have a better/good-enough shroud of its own?

It's all fun and games, until sticky filament gets all over the hotend, gunks up the grub screws and you can't remove your heater and thermistor cartridges. A sock is absolutely worth it, even if it does nothing for actual printing

One of the ones I had that failed, the sock filled up with PETG between the sock and the heater block before I caught it.  I think it started with a piece of the sock breaking off and getting stuck in the print, so at least in that instance the presence of the sock made things worse.  This was the older style sock with the smaller nozzle hole; apparently I got some older inventory and being a total noob didn't know any better.  It's probably not as much of a danger with the current production socks.

Just get the standard sock for the E3D V6 hot end; that part of it is the same.

Jumping on the back of this thread ... I am using a standard MK3S+ (Factory Build) and noticed a little bit of 'dark' stuff on my nozzle / hot end, whilst not causing an issue and I've removed some thinking a sock might help me keep things clean?

What is the 'recommended' sock for a standard kit? (Links?)

Anything I need to do when I install (I'm a newbie)?

RE: Heater Block Silicon Sock?

I found the 'E3D Professional' sock, worse than no sock. in my case the tiny hole got blocked when a model lost adhesion, the printer continued extruding, filament could not get out of the tiny blocked hole, so it continued extruding into the sock, which wrapped the waste extrudate tightly around the heat block, forcing the plastic into every nook and cranny making clean up, harder than normal

So, I suggest that if you are going to use a sock, use the one with a big hole for the nozzle to poke out of!

Used a sock for the first time yesterday (the one with the big hole). First few layers of the print looked great - although I'm not sure if that's just me overthinking it and whether it was great before too! lol

Nevertheless, no ill-effects, so leaving it on just to keep the heaterblock clean if anything else!

RE:

Sorry, I was referring to the post mentioning the revised heat shroud ( https://www.printables.com/model/116791-prusa-mk3s-rhd-cs-fan-shroud-mk3s-mk25s) but seemingly forgot to quote it) -- which says MK3S/MK2S but I have a MK3S+ which it says it WON'T FIT.

So I was wondering if there is a version for the MK3S+ or if it is even necessary/beneficial for that model...

Thanks for the reference.

Have you noticed any meaningful improvment?

That's actually kind of cool. Going through the effort of actually testing the flow virtually is a pretty big deal. Versus just going with the gut.

I'd be curious to try that one myself as I've always felt that having the cooling fan face down was a curious choice. Seems like it would be better not to draw the warm air up from the heated bed, but then again that's just my gut reaction.

It's hard to say.  But visibility under the shroud is vastly improved, especially on my other printer with the Bear extruder.  I didn't do any before/after testing since being able to better see what was going on at the nozzle was my primary goal.  Plus it's one of those rare extruder modifications that doesn't require total disassembly.
