Re: Flashair Wifi SD card setup and drive mapping

Thanks for your help thus far but I am struggling to get my W-03 to work.

I can plug it into a card reader and see the card and modify the CONFIG file. I can also see it on my Samsung S6 wifi list. I don't know how to see it on my PC network where I want to get it working on Windows7.

I don't know much about wifi etc. so I don't know how to config the IP address or find it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I researched your card and found the following of which I don't see type network or security mentioned.

Wireless LAN Standard IEEE802.11 b/g/n
Wireless LAN Security WEP, TKIP, AES (WPA, WPA2) WPA2 Default

What kind of wireless are you running? You may see it, but is it compatible with the wireless on your Samsung S6 wifi list? Look at the B, G and N under Protocol in the chart and compare

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEEE_802.11

You'll have more bandwidth using 802.11N. The lower bandwidth can be an issue for B and remember all wireless is like using a HUB, not a Switch. You are sharing bandwidth? Are the kids streaming videos to their laptop?
Next check security. The W-03 uses WPA2 as default, if your wireless is using anything else, that's why you can't connect. WEP, TKIP, AES (WPA, and not WPA2).
Only 802.11 N uses the 5GHz frequency. Does your Samsung S6 wifi tell you what your W-03 flashcard is using? Wireless receivers break things up into a number of channels so multiple connections can be made, but the bandwidth is SHARED.
Also shows "Internet Explorer 9 or later, Safari 5.1 or later". So I don't know if it will work if you're using Firefox or Chrome.

Hope this helps.

Re: Flashair Wifi SD card setup and drive mapping

I just tried to download the manual for this device and I don't see squat for the settings I'm talking about. There's not much at all, but that's what I would expect from toshiba. Sorry, I hate toshiba with a passion and it has nothing to do with their products just their business practices...

Help, after two nights of trying no luck. My latest config is below. I tried a lot of variants but none work. I can not see the card on my network or map it. I have a ASUS RT-N12B1 router and even loaded the lasted firmware. Any Help would be much appreciated.

Your IP address and your default gateway don't match. Both should either be "1" (which matches all of your other settings) or "0", not mixed.

Re: Flashair Wifi SD card setup and drive mapping

This is the config I am using at the moment.
Windows7
RTN-66U Asus Router
Firefox browser
Toshiba Flashair W-03 SD card/wifi (WPA2)?

I can plug the SD card into a card reader and see the card in Windows file explorer and also see the card listed on my Samsung phone 2.4Ghz wifi list and now found the static IP address for it. If I try to connect to the card it makes an attempt and ask for the password (123456789) but fails authentication.

I have tried to access the SD card via the browser using 192.168.1.128 but I get no response.

Re: Flashair Wifi SD card setup and drive mapping

Those two are SSID and password from your router's wifi access point.
You confuse two things:
- in APPMODE=4 card behaves like access point, so you assign SSID and password to your SD card so you can acces it as it behaves like your router: you connect to it with your PC, phone... note: YOU connect to the card, card CAN'T connect to your wifi in this mode.

- In APPMODE=5 your SD card is just like your PC - card must connect to your home wifi system, so it needs SSID and password FROM YOUR wifi home network in order to succesfull connect. In this mode card doesn't have it's own SSID or password (your PC doesn't have them also, right?)

Re: Flashair Wifi SD card setup and drive mapping

Ok Thanks.
I went back into my card CONFIG and seen the VERSION=F15DBW3BW4.00.02 instead of "VERSION=FA9CAW3AW3.00.02" so I was suspicious of that and reloaded the firmware again. Now have the "VERSION=FA9CAW3AW3.00.02" for my W-03 type card.

I was able to then see the SD card available on my phone network but it had a different IP address than the one entered in the CONFIG file.

Also changed to a "APPMODE=4" but not sure this is what I really need to talk from the PC to the SD card via my home wifi.
I also changed the Preferred_DNS_Server=192.168.1.1 and Alternate_DNS_Server=192.168.1.1 from zeros(0) to ones(1).

Yes, version and also CID number both must be from your card.

No, you do not want APPMODE 4, you want 5. In mode 4, the card is acting like its own wireless router, advertising the network SSID you've specified, which is why you see it on your Samsung S6 'available Wifi' list. In mode 5, it acts as a network client instead, able to join your existing Wifi just as your other devices do. In this mode, you won't see it advertise itself as an available wireless network, just as you wouldn't see your laptop or iPad advertise themselves as an available Wifi network (unless you've temporarily put them in hotspot mode).

You also need to change your appssid and appnetworkkey. In mode 5, these need to be your home WiFi login, whatever you normally use to join your wireless.

Okay, so I changed the SSID and Appnetworkkey to that of my router and changed to APPMODE 5 from 4. Is there a way to see if the SD card wifi is there and accessible?

You can start by pinging the IP address you gave it in your config file. ( https://iihelp.iinet.net.au/How_to_run_a_ping_test )

If it responds, then try to access the file share via the methods described in previous posts. If it does not respond to a ping, then you will want to see if it even made it onto your network. You can do that by either going into your WiFi router and looking at its wireless client list, or by downloading and running a free network scanning utility, like SoftPerfect Network Scanner or AngryIP. In either interface, you should be looking for the IP address you gave it, and/or its ethernet address (toshiba's 'mastercode').

Okay Josh, Thanks for the help but still nada.

Loaded Softperfect and could not find the two suspect IP addresses. I scanned 192.268.1.1 thru 192.168.1.255 View router clients and could not find anything. Pinged the two suspect IP addresses without any response as well. Good grief!!!! This is ridiculous............

I'm now have a working FlashAir, RJ's Video was a big help.

Not sure which change I made, but I'm happy. 😀 Did two think at one time 1)used FlashAir Software tool to set up Per Video(i.e. APPMODE=6) and 2) had my slash's in the wrong direction when mapping and checking the Drive WAS "\" SB "/"

Thank you all, For all your Help

Giving up for now.

never give up.

you are, as i was, missing the MASTERCODE=

As i have in the screenshots and instructions on the OP you need to copy down the mac address from the back of the card. Then you need to run the configutility and then enter the mac address, and exit, once you do you will see a MASTERCODE= line in the config and it will include the mac address without colons.

after that is added change the following as i describe below:

[Vendor]

CIPATH=/DCIM/100__TSB/FA000001.JPG
APPMODE=6 THIS SHOULD BE AND REMAIN AND ALWAYS BE 5 if you want it on your network. it shall not be 4 neither shall it be six but 5 shall be the holy number for appmode

Rj's video seems to be okat but he never finished telling why he did change the SSID's.

I could use a bit more explanation on the SSID information for each of the entrys on which is your home network or other.
I cannot get the browser to find my selected IP address. Do you just pick a IP address out of thin are or what?
I also changed the network channel to 1 thru 11 for the W-03 card as suggested.
APPMODE=6 seems to be working in the video and others using it.

john.k7 Would you mind posting you CONFIG file contents?

Oh the pain!
